SYNOPSIS:

What if perfection isn’t truly perfect?

Best-selling romance writer, Darcy Butler, is holding out for perfection in the form of her own carefully-crafted heroes. Once blissfully engaged to be married, Darcy’s post-traumatic commitment phobia is depriving her of the very thing she wants most: her very own happily-ever-after. Now, here she is just six months shy of her thirtieth birthday, and not a Prince Charming in sight.

Successful lawyer, Josh Ryan, is the boy-next-door with a soft spot for the less fortunate, and Darcy’s best friend without benefits. Darcy often comes to him lamenting her love-life, or the lack thereof, whereupon Josh patiently doles out his sage advice. Problem is Josh is in love with Darcy.

But when Darcy finds herself looking into the handsome face of the man who graces the cover of her soon-to-be-released novel, she’s convinced her dreams of perfection have come true. Or have they?

SYNOPSIS/BLURB
For three best friends, one winter will change everything.

Chronically optimistic Jayne is surprised she’s still single at twenty-eight. But as always for Jayne, there’s hope. This time his name is Gray—a successful, gorgeous marketing VP that she can’t believe is going out with her. She’s never given up on the belief that the right man for her is out there. Maybe Gray could be the one…if she just works hard enough to make it happen.

Her cynical friend Karen is suspicious of Jayne’s new guy with his model looks and over-inflated ego. She’s concerned for Jayne, but has her own relationship to worry about. Not that anything’s wrong with her boyfriend. He’s actually perfect for her, which is why she’s terrified. Not sure she can ever fully trust a man again, she considers bailing on yet another relationship.

Claudia is always there for her friends, mothering them like the children she craves to have. Happily married, Claudia anxiously awaits the day her husband finally agrees it’s time to start a family.

’Til St. Patrick’s Day is a novel about the depths of friendship and what happens when love doesn’t go according to plan.

REVIEWS:
Review from Debbie at Literati Book Reviews:
“The development of characters is written in such depth that you feel a deep sense of connection to each of the women. …With the author’s ease of putting words on paper, the story flows through your mind, connecting on a deep emotional level. You will find yourself hoping, gasping, shedding a tear or two and smiling with happiness as the story unfolds.”

Review from Victoria Lawson at BestChickLit.com:

“If you like a good love story, then this should be on your ‘to read’ list. Gilliatt creates characters who you connect with… The reader is placed in the middle of these three women’s lives; you experience their ups, their downs and their own journeys of self-discovery. You genuinely care about what happens to the characters, which is half the battle, and certainly not an easy one! …If you’re a sucker for a love story, then this novel will definitely give you a ‘happily ever after.'”

Review from Angie at Pink Fluffy Hearts:

“Wow did I love this book. From start to finish, I was engaged with the characters and the plot…. Jane, Karen, and Claudia’s stories wove together very nicely, and made me wistful that other books don’t always successfully convince me that the main characters are such close friends. It was a heart-warming story with a satisfying ending even though parts of it made me tear up…. Obviously the main theme of this novel was friendship, but it’s followed very closely by love—and not just romantic love. To anyone who likes to read stories about these themes, you HAVE to read this book. It’s fantastic.”

Review from Catriona Merryweather at Fabulous Book Fiend:

” A wonderful debut novel about changing your perspective when it comes to relationships. I was hooked into this story right from the word go… All three women are written as very strong characters and I’m sure that most readers will be able to identify with at least one of them, if not all of them, as I did… There are several unexpected twists and turns which will keep the reader guessing until the end as to how everything is going to turn out for these women as well as several ‘aww’ moments but make sure you keep the tissues handy as there were a few times I found myself welling up… A fantastic chick-lit novel, fun, identifiable and well worth a read!”

SNEAK PEEK:

Seeing Alexander that close to Cora made Nick’s skin crawl. He didn’t waste any pleasantries on the man. “Did Jerry find the money so soon?” Alexander snorted. “Hardly.”

“So, what’s the news?”

“He still claims someone else stole it, he’s investigating. My guess is he’ll get himself killed.”

Nick kept a straight face and resisted the urge to punch the cabin wall next to him, when he really wanted to hit Alexander in that straight, pointed nose of his.

“Did I ruin your plans by showing up?” Alexander’s mouth twisted. “Don’t bother pretending you’re not trying to get her in bed.”

Nick’s blood boiled hotter at Alexander’s crude words.

“I’m just doing what my father needs me to.” Nick forced his tensed shoulders to relax and folded his arms across his chest, hoping to avoid further conflict with a less defensive stance. “Keith wants her up here for a while, so this is where we’re staying.”

“I don’t buy it, and I don’t know why Keith does.” Alexander wanted a fight, Nick thought, and a reason to grab Cora and take off with her.
Nick shrugged, deciding it best not to goad Alexander.

“Keith doesn’t need a lawyer around,” Alexander said. “You know that, don’t you? You walked away and you’re not getting back in.”

“Don’t be so sure. Maybe a lawyer in the family could do some good.”

Alexander was so stunned, he took a step backwards. Nick mentally kicked himself for giving Alexander another reason to keep a close watch on them.

“What do you want with her? Why did you really get her involved?” The other man laughed, “You know it was the only way to get Jerry to find the money without going to the police. We can’t let information like this get out to the press.”

GASTIEN PART 1: THE COST OF THE DREAM by CADDY ROWLAND (historical/romance)

POSTED FRIDAY OCT. 21st, 2011

THE REVOLVING BOOK FRIDAY EDITION IS BY CADDY ROWLAND

TITLE:  GASTIEN PART 1: THE COST OF THE DREAM

GENRE: HISTORICAL ROMANCE

PUBLISHER: CREATE SPACE

RELEASED: SEPT. 2011

WHERE YOU CAN BUY THE BOOK:

PAPERBACK/PRINT: CREATE SPACE http://tinyurl.com/3luddg7

BARNES AND NOBLE NOOK: http://tinyurl.com/3ue4a7h

SYNOPSIS:

In this both dark and hopeful first book, young Gastien Beauchamp begins his journey to Paris with two goals in life.  The first is to become an artist with his own studio, following his own rules. That is an almost impossible dream for a peasant.  Gastien has no money, no formal training, and is a naïve eighteen year old fresh off the farm. Paris spits out talented men into the gutters every day. “Good” gets you nowhere. “Great” maybe gets you a bowl of soup.

The second is to become the greatest lover in France. That should be easy. With his stunning looks, and his willingness to learn, the women of Paris are about to be awakened in a way they have only dreamt about in the 19th century!

Gastien swears that he has no interest in love.  Love would only take away his dreams.  But he is innocent and does not realize that sex without love can be quite empty.  Before he can learn that, he must face obstacles and heartaches that will threaten to destroy his very soul.

Insatiable, burning passion. Focus and drive. Raw, natural talent. Armed with those, Gastien is determined to succeed at any cost.  Poor Gastien. If he could only know in advance what struggles lay before him, he might think twice about leaving home. However, he is young and full of hope. The dreams burn relentlessly inside of him, not allowing him a moments rest. And so the journey begins…

REVIEWS:

ON NOOK: http://tinyurl.com/3ue4a7h

“Wonderful, compelling read!  Challenges your own thoughts, dreams and soul!  Cannot wait for Part 2!  Thought I would miss Gastien but cannot seem to get him out of my head.”  -acelles (NOOK link above)

“I fell in love with Gastien. His story is going to captivate you.”  -Anonymous (NOOK link above)

“…catches your mind and races away with it. Drawing you further and further into Gastiens world and holding you there for hours upon hours.
When you can break away, it stays in your thoughts, until you rush back, and once again you are drawn into the world of Gastien.”
-Dayton F. Larson (Kindle link above)

” Unfamiliar with this author and not ordinarily a reader of this genre when a friend of mine loaned me this book I admit I had fairly low expectations. So after half expecting to read a bit and then get bored, instead I found myself completely drawn in to the story…The book has a contemporary feel to it in the dialogue and sexuality, but there is enough of 19th century France in there to keep you grounded in place and time. The book has some fairly graphic intense moments but they contribute to the story rather than detract from it. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to pick up a story to get lost in for a couple of days.” -W. Parker (Kindle link above)

“What do you do with artistic talent and a heart bursting with the need to express it?…Developing your art and learning the difference between love and sex makes for a powerful story. The sex is graphic, but flows with the story. You’ll be looking for more!!!
-K. Druart (Kindle link above)

AUTHOR BIO:
Caddy Rowland grew up in the Midwest with a stack of books that almost reached the ceiling before she was five. Books, along with her vivid imagination, have always been her closest friends.

She lives in Minnesota with her husband, who was her high school sweetheart. They are owned by two parrots. Yes, they can talk, and yes, they can bite! Melanie, the African Grey has such an extensive vocabulary that Caddy sometimes thinks Melly is preparing to become an author.

After over 20 twenty years in advertising sales, Caddy decided to pursue her childhood dream of becoming an author in 2011. There are four books planned for the Gastien series, and many other books in her head. Now, if only she can learn to type 2000 words a minute…

Her goal as an author is to make readers laugh, cry, think, and become intimately connected with her main characters. To her, a good main character stays in the mind long after the story has been read. They should become as real in the mind as the person next door.

SNEAK TEASE:

Bonsoir yourself! You are quite bold sitting down without being invited! How do you know I am not meeting someone? How do you know if you are wanted?” she challenged softly, refusing to be the first to look away.

He smiled lazily and sat back. “Bold? I was bought and paid for last night when you sent me five bottles of champagne. I am definitely wanted. And, oui, you were waiting for someone. That person is now here, non?”

She nodded slightly, dropping her eyes. “Oui. He is here.”

“What is your name then?” he asked.

“Nathalie. Or Nath.”

“Well, Nathalie, I am puzzled. Tell me, do you prefer to play games? I can do that, but I prefer being open about what I am interested in. I thought last night you made your interest clear. Do we have to go through charades now?” The waiter appeared and Gastien ordered a glass of vin.

Nathalie raised her eyebrows as the waiter walked away. “Usually a gentleman buys the lady a drink.”

“You are right. They do on a date. We are not on a date. You are also assuming that I am a gentleman.”

She gave a small laugh. “My mistake.”

“I am just saying, please don’t assume things about me until you know me better. I am always open about things. However, I don’t like it when people assume they know me before they actually do.”

“Fair enough.”

“Also, anyone who can afford five bottles of champagne for a stranger can afford to buy her own drinks.”

“So, you expect me to buy the drinks?”

Non. Not mine. I am simply making my intentions clear. I am not interested in courtship, Nathalie. I don’t think you are, either.” She looked surprised. He was not as green as she expected, but every bit as delicious looking as she remembered. Perhaps they would make good bed partners more than one time. He was a challenge.

“So tell me, what are those intentions, and what is your name?” she asked.

“My name is Gastien. My intention is to come home with you so that we can enjoy ourselves in your bed.” He sipped his vin. “That is, after I have a meal. I need to satisfy that hunger first.”

“And if I have decided I am not interested?” she shot back.

“Then I want to say merci for the champagne last night, and I will move on. But, come on, Nath. Are we still playing games?”

She looked into his huge brown eyes. Those eyes were dangerous, there were too many emotions reflected in them. She would have to very careful about not losing her head over this one. But she could be careful, she told herself. She wanted to taste that mouth.  Even more, she wanted to find out what he felt like inside of her.

Gastien smiled, this time sweetly. “You are more than interested. You are already deciding what you want to do with me the first time tonight.”

“The first time? You plan on multiple times tonight?” This man was too full of himself!

Gastien nodded. He looked at her openly. “Oui. I told you I like to be honest. Here is the situation: I have not been with a woman for almost four months. Therefore, it is almost a guarantee that I won’t last long the first time. That is just the way males are. I am sorry. But, if you will let me just make myself happy that first time, I promise to make it up to you. Several times, if you wish.” He opened the menu and started to read it.

She grabbed his menu, pulling it down. “Several times tonight?”

He stared at her unblinking. “Oui. I am eighteen, Nath. I can go all night.”

“Four months without sex? With the appetite you seem to have for it? What, you weren’t in prison or something, were you?”

Gastien threw back his head and laughed. “Non, not in prison. I did nothing illegal. I am an artist, Nath. I was homeless for awhile. No one found me very appealing then.”

She thought that over for a few minutes. This man had lived on the streets during the winter. Somehow he had not only survived, he was sitting in a restaurant, in new clothes, sipping a glass of vin. Obviously, he was not without a quick mind and good instincts to go with those looks. Definitely not a one night fling like she had imagined. This man would be worth establishing a relationship with, one that benefited both of them sexually. This time she smiled even bigger, as she asked, “Several times?”

Gastien sighed. “Oui, Nath. As I said, several times. As many as you can take.”

“And if I am the one to wear you out?” she challenged again.

This time it was Gastien to raise a brow. “Seriously? Is the lady throwing down the gauntlet?”

She smiled. “I think, Gastien, that you and I are going to make each other very happy. Very happy indeed.”

Throughout the night, Gastien was her student. She started with kissing, teaching him that devouring a mouth was good in some cases, but sometimes, you needed to let a kiss start as a whisper and build steam. She taught him that kisses can happen in other places besides a mouth and a conne.

Nath showed him parts of the body that responded to touches and rubs. She taught him how to use his tongue on nipples, on ears, on the back. She taught him how to suck and bite on toes to make a woman crazy, how to run a tongue along an instep, biting the arch.

When he got to the Polidor, about six of the ten men from last night were there. So was she, at her table. The guys called him over to their table. He waved at them, but walked over to the woman’s table. Mon Dieu, she was arresting looking! Whoever wore their hair like that? He liked that she dared to do something with her hair no other woman did. He bet it would soon be in style for the masses. She looked up as he casually sat down at her table across from her. He met her eyes, gave a small indication of a smile and said “Bonsoir.”

SNEAK PEEK:

“Wow.”

The word slipped out before she could stop it. His chiseled face hosted a strong square chin with a tiny indention in the center covered with a day’s growth of beard, a perfect nose, pronounced cheekbones, dark eyebrows. She propped a knee on the mattress, scooting closer to lean over him for a better look, amazed at how powerful his face appeared. Fierce. A man not to be trifled with. A man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to get it.

Maggie cocked her head to the side, enjoying her view, a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. For a moment, she had forgotten the fact she was in a strange place. Her long, auburn locks cascaded over her shoulder and brushed against him. The baby-fine strands must have tickled his skin, for his eyes popped open and stared back at her.

Gorgeous silvery eyes met hers and she blinked and pulled back.

But he was faster than she. He grasped her by her upper arms and dragged her to him, placing her on his lap as his large, powerful hands gripped her hips. Maggie was completely aware of all of him now. A hot fantasy splashed through her mind as she shifted on top of him. What was under the linen was apparent between her legs. Every last inch of him. Her hands landed on his chest, her senses delighting in the warm, soft skin beneath her palms.

His gaze lingered on her face a moment before gliding down, pausing on her lace-covered breasts and then continuing his downward jaunt. He fingered the waistband of her panties, running the pad of his forefinger over first one hipbone then her abdomen and back again.

The small movement sent white-hot heat shooting through her, awaking parts of her that weren’t used to being on alert so early in the morning. Especially without a cup of coffee.

His hands moved up her sides then, desire evident in those depthless silver eyes, and the appendage on which she happened to be sitting.

“Now, lass, you best be telling me who you are and why you’re in my bed. Not that I mind, but I canna recall tupping you last eve and I always remember bonnie lasses I tup.”

His deep-timbre brogue purred the words and sent a delicious rumble right through her. She resisted the urge to shudder. She loved sex-with-stranger dreams and this one was starting off with a bang.

The only thing she did know was that she was in a strange place with a very sexy man beneath her hands, straddling his lap with nothing but a breath of linen and cotton between them. It wouldn’t take much for her to remove that material and get exactly what she was feeling.

But she wasn’t the kind of girl to have sex with a stranger, was she?

I could be.

Besides, this was just a dream. She would wake up any minute in the cold, deserted castle all alone. And then she would be faced with the problem of how to get herself back to civilization. In the meantime, she could do anything she wanted in her dream. Couldn’t she?

TEASER:

Glancing at her watch, closing time neared. Only ten minutes left in the day. The no-show sexy man let all the wind out of her sails completely. There was no sense in delaying the inevitable, she thought, as she headed to the front door. Her hand was on the lock, ready to flip it when…there he was walking toward the bakery.

Her heart skipped a beat. Chloe resisted the urge to smooth back her hair. Instead she licked her suddenly parched lips. There were no other customers in the shop and she would be…all…alone…with him.

A giant knot formed in her throat. She tried to swallow around it but it wouldn’t go away. She was tempted to reach out to him again, to try and touch him with her mind but she was afraid what would happen. Last time he’d nearly fried her.

Chloe swung open the door as he walked in, a scent of musk and danger wafting in after him. Was that the acrid smell of sweat? She shook her head to clear it. She was being silly.

“Cutting it a bit close, aren’t you?” she asked, closing the door and walking behind the counter.

“I was…detained.” His gaze raked over her from head to toe, as though he could picture her naked.

Even though she wanted him to picture her naked, she couldn’t help but notice the dust on his black t-shirt or the smudge of dirt on his left cheek. The way his face looked damp. His hair stood in spikes, like he’d been raking his hand through it repeatedly. And he looked like he hadn’t shaved in three days, which seemed an odd occurrence to her. Not that she would complain. She liked her men rough and ready.

With a small smile to mask her terror, she used her sense to reach out again. She probably shouldn’t, judging by what happened yesterday, but she had to know who or what he was.

The moment she reached for him, it was like he snagged her, dragged her to him, and planted a kiss so sensual, so erotic she lost track of who and what she was. He projected an image to her, showing her all the naughty things he wanted to do to her. Most of them included her on her back, covered in cream cheese icing while he licked it off all the delicate parts of her body.

Chloe gasped, pulled away from him and stumbled backward.

“You’re a…you’re…” She couldn’t get the words out.

“A witch. Yes.” He leaned his hands on the counter and slanted toward her. “I thought you figured that out yesterday when you tried to poke me. Would you like me to prove it to you?”

The door lock clicked into place. All the blinds closed with a flourish.

“Now you’re just showing off,” Chloe snapped. Despite her bravado, fear clawed her throat. “Are you going to take me back to the coven?”

“No,” he said, matter-of-factly. “I’m going to take you in the back, strip you, and fuck you.”

“Who are you?” Her voice was stronger then, though she couldn’t mistake the quiver of her words. She didn’t want to acknowledge that it was from heightened anticipation.

“You can call me Edward.” His eyes landed on her lips again.

“That’s not your real name, is it?”

“You don’t need to know my real name.” His gaze raked over her. “Yet.”

Fear trickled over her in a cold sweat. “Are you from the coven?”

“Yes. I’ve been sent to…” He paused, cocked his head to one side before smiling and showing off those dimples. “…retrieve something that belongs to them.”

Chloe swallowed hard. Damn. She knew exactly what thing he wanted to retrieve and he would have to do it over her dead body. Which is probably the idea.

She never should have run and she’d been stupid to think she could hide here in the human world, under the guise of a baker. Who was she fooling?

She could admit now that her baking had gotten out of hand. That she had this drive and determination to be the best there ever was. That’s why she started putting a little magic in her cupcakes, a little enchantment in her scones and using a little witchery on her cookies. She was the best in town. She had succeeded. She had also succeeded in not staying anonymous.

Her use of magic had, no doubt, called attention to her.

She could run but he’d catch her. And she certainly couldn’t get around him to get to the door. Chloe straightened her back and steeled herself against the coming onslaught. She wouldn’t go down without a fight.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Edward chuckled, a deep rumble in his throat. “Oh, come now. Surely you must know. You took something you shouldn’t have, didn’t you? You also saw something you shouldn’t have.”

Damn. Chloe thought for sure she had escaped from that horrible world. Apparently changing her name and her appearance hadn’t done a bit of good. She’d convinced herself over the last year she really was Chloe O’Shea, baker extraordinaire instead of Sadie Steele, witch who saw something she really wished she’d never seen.

“Sadie.”

Edward let her name roll of his tongue in a dark, dangerous baritone dripping with sex and lust and dark promises.

Chloe swallowed hard, that lump still there. “What do you want?”

He leaned a hip on the counter, his musky scent drifting over her, tantalizing her. He certainly didn’t smell of fear. Instead, he smelled of eroticism and awesomeness. He glanced over his cuticles, examining his perfectly trimmed nails.

“It seems a have another rather pressing problem at the moment. What I want is you.” He gave her a pointed look. One that said he knew what she’d done last night, all alone, with thoughts of him racing through her mind. “It’s the only way to cure me.”

“Cure you?” Fear mingled with uncertainty as it flooded through her. Clearly, he knew who and what she was—a healer. “What do you mean?”

“Can’t you see what you’ve done to me?” He leaned toward her, his lips parted. “You put magic in your cupcakes, didn’t you?”

“I…” She faltered. She had and he knew it. And maybe subconsciously she’d put a little something extra in his. A big mistake, clearly.

“You did. That’s why I’m here.” He twined a blond lock around his forefinger. “Once I took that first bite, the magic in them awoke the demon inside me.”

Her eyes narrowed to slits. “Demon? I thought you were a witch.”

“I’m half-witch, half-incubus. Lucky for you. I take what I need, when I need it.” He winked and leaned toward to her, his lips close to hers as he whispered against them. “And there is one of two ways you can give me the release I need.”

“Dare I ask?” Her heart thrummed in her chest. Her traitorous body reacted to the way his warm breath lingered over her mouth, teasing her. Tempting her.

“Have sex with me for the next twelve hours. It will sate my thirst for you and break the spell.”

Edward’s lips brushed hers ever-so-softly, rich with promise and vows of ecstasy. Slick heat exploded between her legs, begging for release. Instead, she jerked away, out of his reach.

“Do you expect me to surrender to you that easily?”

“Oh, I expect you will surrender.” Again, that pointed sultry look. “You’ll beg to surrender to me.”

Chloe propped her hands on her hips. “I will never surrender to you.” Yes, you will, you liar. You know you will. Her inner voice taunted her.

“You want me, too, don’t you?” His grin showed off the dimples around his mouth.

“What’s my other option?” she asked, ignoring his question. Of course she wanted him. Her body shook with desire.

“Perform a spell to break the magic that’s holding me.”

Well, that was certainly out of the question. If she did, it would be like sending up a giant neon sign pointing at her saying, Here I am! Come get me! The coven would definitely know where she was if she used that much magic. She told herself the little bit she used in her baked goods would go unnoticed. That she could remain incognito. Perhaps she had been wrong about that, too, if he’d found her so easily.

Edward had to realize that using a spell like that would make the coven aware. That’s why he tried to coerce her into having sex with him. Like that was such a bad thing.

REVIEWS:

BOOK STRAND:

Great read! Intersecting and weaving the storyline to have it come back around to past and present characters was really good. I enjoyed it and hated going to work in the middle of the ‘book’. Sign me up for your next book!

MANIC READERS

A Knight in Cowboy Boots is quite original, and Quint deals with the conflicts and mysteries very well. These are just ordinary folks, caught up in a bad situation, but they stick together to help Maddie extricate herself from the mess. This is a nice little love story, with scarred but very believable characters that I liked a lot.

SNEAK TEASE:

He grabbed her hips, trying to force her to be still. “Stop. St—st—stop.”

“Now what?” Maddie’s tone hinted at annoyance, but her eyes gleamed with amusement.

Zach took several deep breaths. Finally, he swallowed once, hard. “What?”

“You just keep slowing things down. Last time it was ‘I’ll finish first.’ Is that it? Do you have a problem with . . . ” Maddie waved a hand, like that was supposed to tell him what she was thinking. “Premature—”

“No!” Zach shouted, appalled she would even think . . .

“Then what?” Her previous amusement was fading.

Zach closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. Lord, give me strength. “I don’t have a condom.”

“You don’t have a condom?” Maddie repeated as though he’d said he’d forgotten to bring his balls.

“Hey! I thought I was going to church with Jake and Rachel,” Zach said, defending himself. “Somehow it seems like God might doubt my sincerity if I start packing condoms to church!”

He could hear a desperate edge in Maddie’s laughter, but at least she was laughing.

“I don’t know why that’s so damn funny. You didn’t bring your gun to church either.”

RELEASE DATE: JUNE 2011

SYNOPSIS:

After years of hard work and keeping her nose firmly to the grindstone, Dr. Holly Bell has finally achieved her dream: a position as a pediatric surgeon at a prestigious teaching hospital. Children’s lives rest in her skilled hands. That means total dedication to her work and her patients without letting anything or anyone get in the way. And a hot affair with a superstar athlete is most definitely getting in Holly’s way.

Nate Carter, star pitcher for the Philadelphia Patriots, has the world in the palm of his baseball glove. He’s at the height of his game, a west coast team is about to lure him with even greater riches, and the most gorgeous women in town are in full pursuit. Nate has everything he wants, or at least he thinks he does, until he meets the beautiful and brainy Dr. Holly Bell. He’s totally up for a hot affair, and Holly turns out to be the hottest.

But will Holly be willing to play his game? When the lovely doctor starts changing the rules, Nate realizes he just might be playing for keeps.

SNEAK TEASE:

Nate’s mouth thinned into a hard, determined line.  He looked as if he’d like to pull her onto his lap and spank her.  Somehow, the thought didn’t alarm her as much as it should have.

“Come on, Holly.  You’re smart and capable and tough.  You’ve got nothing to prove.  But if that creep gets a chance, he’ll grab you, and I don’t think you’ll be able to do much about it.”

When he took a step toward her, she backed away.  More than anything, she wanted to collapse into his arms, but there was too much at stake for self-indulgent weakness.  He couldn’t stay forever, and then what would she do when he left again?

Nate threw up his hands in frustration.  “Jesus, woman!  Just let me help you, okay?  I can’t stand by and do nothing when you’re in danger.”

Holly shook her head again, but she could feel her resolve start to erode.  “I can’t do it, Nate.  I just can’t,” she pleaded.

Now his eyes gleamed, as if he sensed her weakening.  “Sure, you can,” he said in a coaxing voice.  “Because if you kick me out of here, I swear I’ll sit on your sidewalk all day and sleep in my car out front all night.”

She stared at him, all six-feet-five inches of rampant masculinity, hard as a rock, his jaw set with a determination she knew meant he’d stop at nothing to keep her safe.  It made her feel all gooey inside, but it also scared the hell out of her.  If he stayed with her, they’d end up in bed at some point as sure as the sun rose every day in the east.  When it came to him, she was that weak.

REVIEWS:

“This is a wonderful story that certainly embraces the reality of a very hot love affair, filled with erotic loving and descriptions of encounters that were steamy, to say the least. Yet there were the raw realities of a dying child, an angry and threatening parent, the inadequacies of law enforcement to provide safety for those who are threatened, the necessities of trust and fidelity between two people, the pressures of a professional team management, the worries surrounding an incapacitating injury, and the prospect of a long-distance relationship. All gave balance to a story that was certainly romantic, but one that is rooted in real life and its stresses. I found the characters to be very realistic, edgy, clearly defined and able to stand on their own, with strength and with a sense of who they were.”
DIK Reviews <http://dikladiesrule.blogspot.com/2011/08/playing-game-of-life-hardball-by-v-j.html>

“Great characterizations! Dedicated surgeon meets superstar baseball player and sparks fly in bed and out—but they’re on different wavelengths, commitment-wise. When a psycho parent of one of her patients threatens her life, his decision to protect her brings out his true feelings for her. A mostly delightful romp with two skillfully drawn characters and a bit of spine-tingling suspense!”

BAREFOOT by MICHELLE HOLMAN (contemporary romantic comedy)

RELEASE DATE:  November, 2011

SYNOPSIS:

When Sherry slept with Glenn, she had a career and a future. Little did she know she’d leave them all behind in a motel bedroom. What was she thinking?

In this blistering tale of two self-centred, headstrong high-achievers, Michelle Holman continues the story she began in her bestselling first novel, Bonkers.

The brother-in-law and sister-in-law—who famously met when she nearly arrested him for breaching bio-security with a banana—have three things in common.

They’re uncommonly tall, neither is anything like their married siblings, and they fancy each other something rotten.

Trouble is, Sherry can’t stand the arrogant former American NBA star, while Glenn can’t stand the aloof ‘don’t mess with me’ policewoman.

Ending up in bed together is a great surprise. Neither wanting to admit it was a nice surprise is a complicating factor.  And then the fun begins.

With Michelle’s trademark talent for sizzling sex and the best one-liners you’ve heard in a long time, readers and characters alike are in for a treat.

SNEAK TEASE:

Glenn felt the familiar warring urges to either kiss her or strangle her. ‘Are you always this blunt?’

Her winged brows drew together. ‘I don’t have a lot of time left,’ she said haughtily.

He was used to women throwing themselves at him, but this felt like booking an appointment at the dentist. ‘You’re sure you can fit me into your busy schedule?’ he asked sarcastically.

‘I’m visiting the cousin of somebody I work with, at one of the police precincts this afternoon. Her name’s Roberta. She’s taking me to a honky-tonk bar tonight.’ Sherry mentioned the name of the bar and Glenn knew it. ‘Can you meet me there at ten-thirty?’ she asked. ‘I don’t want to be home too late.’

Now he was being given a time limit. ‘Only if you wear your merry widow.’

Her jaw dropped. ‘My what? How do you know I’ve got a merry widow?’

‘Are you two coming to take your shots?’ Kell called.

‘Never you mind,’ Glenn retorted. ‘Just wear it.’

Sherry had removed her sunglasses to take the photos, and fumbled as she wrenched them from her pocket and jammed them on her face. ‘I’ll think about it,’ she said, and strode away.

REVIEWS:

“Trust me when I say you will not want to miss reading this book. It is a sure bet this story will have you laughing and give you enough entertainment to leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy for days to come.” Rated 5 coffee cups.

“A story of mayhem , family life and interferring biddies – Barefoot has it all.” – The Phantom Paragrapher

“I found Barefoot just as readable as Bonkers, if not more so. It’s a real page-turner as you just want to know how things will turn out. Plus it’s a real twist on the usual love story.” – kmtv

AUTHOR BIO:

I’m a full time author living in Cambridge, New Zealand which is not far from where the Hobbiton set was built for the Lord of The Rings movies and is being used again for the filming of The Hobbit. A lot of short people with large feet living in the area got to be extras on the LOTR movies and are being called back for The Hobbit. I’m average height and have average sized feet so I don’t qualify but, I KNOW people with big feet who are STARS.

Like most authors, I spent every moment of my childhood with my head stuck in a book and recall writing my first book when I was twelve. It was about two New Zealand girls who went to London; and fell in love with a couple of rock stars. This may have had something to do with me going to my first rock concert.  Unsurprisingly, the book never saw the light of day. I did what most kiwis do when they leave school, travelled abroad and met my English husband. We’ve been married for twenty-five years in June and have two teenagers. He still likes to point out my parents bought me a one-way ticket to England, which isn’t true – if it was they would have moved without telling me. We live on a few acres with two horses, a Border Collie-crossed-with-something dog that eats sofas, and a cat that rules the roost. I’m a lapsed Emergency Department nurse (you never stop being a nurse, you just lapse) and I’ve also worked as a  holiday camp chalet maid in the UK, kibbutz worker, and as a tissue transplant co-ordinator at the Coroner’s Officer.

I’m published in New Zealand and Australia by Harper Collins and in Austria, Germany and Switzerland by Droemer. I write what I like to read: sexy, funny romances with flawed heroes and heroines and happy endings. Barefoot is my fourth book, and the sequel to my first, Bonkers which is Lisa Jackson’s story. I always intended to write stories for her sister, Sherry, and brother, Ben but wasn’t planning on doing it so soon. However, Sherry had other ideas and “talked down” the characters in the book I began writing until I gave in and wrote her story instead which was tough because I had to research professional basketball and watch lots of big, fit men pound around the court.  My fifth book is due for release in New Zealand and Australia in November, 2011. It isn’t Ben Jackson’s story – that’s a couple of books away but I can hear Ben murmuring…
I love to hear from readers – it’s what makes writing books so worthwhile.

SNEAK PEEK:

Shayla groaned, resisting the urge to throw up. “If you don’t tell me where we’re going right now, I’m going to barf. I won’t feel guilty about messing up your car.”

He braked, slowing to a near crawl. “Sorry about that. It was the Mason-Dixon Line. Had to do the zigzag real quick. Now, you can literally say you’ve straddled the Mason-Dixon Line.”

“Funny,” she said as her body tried to accommodate the reduced speed. She gripped her sides. “Why are we stopping here?” She eyed the countryside around them. Close to sunset, the dusky atmosphere gave an eerie impression to the quiet country road.

“Just so happens we’re here.”

“Where?”

“Can’t you feel it? This is the magical ward border.” Meekal faced her from the driver’s seat. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to drive any closer. He probably has a ward that indicates whether someone magical has crossed the line.”

“Who?” Shayla studied his cautious features. “Oh. So you’ve brought me to meet an ancestor?” She returned her gaze to the countryside and forced new emotions back into the closet. “That’s why you wouldn’t tell me.”

“Aye. I’ve seen what you can do when you’re angry. But, my love, you need to face this. He is a part of who you are—body and even soul. The tricky part will be getting past his ward. Like I said, it’s probably set to let him know if someone magical has crossed into his property.”

“Well, that makes sense. But, how are we going to get closer?”…
