Disguised as a boy, Marly joins a handsome Texas Ranger in the hunt for a con man and they must bring the fugitive to justice before giving up the masquerade and giving in to their passion.

When Marly Landers is fooled by con man Charlie Meese, she’s determined to bring him to justice–even if it means dressing up as a boy and setting off across the plains to find him.

Texas Ranger Jase Strachan is also after Meese, for crimes committed in Texas. He joins forces with the young boy in a journey that takes them to Fortuna, where a murder interrupts their mission. Jase is duty bound to find the killer, no matter the cost.

Marly carries out her own investigation and comes to the aid of Amabelle Egan, the sister of one of the suspects. But appearances are deceiving, and Marly is mistaken for Amabelle’s suitor, making her a target for the killer. Not to mention, Charlie Meese is still out there.

Under the Texas stars, Marly and Jase are drawn together by circumstances beyond their control, yet fate plots to tear them apart. Will Marly finally get her man?

REVIEWS:

A rollicking adventure of romance and True Grit… This is an historical Western romance in a style that reminds me of Hemingway. Although the descriptions are colorful and accurate, there are no wasted words here as the characters are developed through dialogue and action. The old West comes to life! Highly recommended. Goodreads

Good old-fashioned historic western romance with a kick!
Alison Bruce does an excellent job on setting the scenes and customs of the old west. History, characterizations, and the long ride of the heroes of the story are convincing for the time. There is lots of action and gun-play as they work together on a case in Fortuna. … If you’re looking for a dish of the old west with a dash of romance and humor minus the raunch dressing, this book is for you. Goodreads

“Alison Bruce captures the Old West in a delightful, if improbable, mix of romance, cultures and characters with UNDER A TEXAS STAR” Goodreads – Areletta Dawdy (4 stars)

“I cannot describe to yall how much I loved this book.” Heather (5 stars)

“An endearing story of betrayal and love . . . ” Amazon UK T. Tibbenham

It’s a killer of a mystery! Check out J.M. Griffin’s new release! by Joanna D’Angelo

Death Gone AwryDeath Gone Awry, Book 6 of the Vinnie Esposito Series is here! J.M. Griffin’s killer of  a cozy mystery series is on a roll.

Get Death Gone Awry from Lachesis Publishing, or on amazon, BN Nookkobo, or iBooks.

I have so much fun editing this series. I adore Vinnie Esposito. I root for her. I laugh at her antics. She gets into trouble. A lot. But she is always doing the right thing. I am always on her side. And that’s important when it comes to the relationship between the reader and the heroine/hero. We have to connect with the heroine in order to follow along on her journey. No matter what the journey is. Otherwise we won’t be able to get through the book. We have to like the heroine too. We have to be able to understand her, and her motives. And a great writer, like J.M. Griffin, enables us to do that.

I hope you enjoy reading Death Gone Awry as much as I did.

Here’s what it’s about:

Vinnie Esposito Series (Book 6)

This is what Vinnie Esposito knows: When you see a guy floating in the water, you jump in and save him. You don’t stop to ask if he’s connected to the mob. Unfortunately for Vinnie, he is. And now she’s in trouble. Again.

Her boyfriend, hunky State Trooper Marcus Richmond, is fed up with Vinnie’s misadventures, not to mention that every mobster in town seems to know who she is. At least Vinnie knows she can rely on her best friend Lola Trapezi to whip up some delicious dinner at her deli. She also knows Lola is always ready to help, even if it means getting into some hot water herself.

Everything Vinnie knows and doesn’t know—including how she really feels about her sexy friend and upstairs tenant FBI Agent Aaron Grant, and whether her dad really is connected to the mob—is all up in the air. And what Vinnie doesn’t know, might just get her killed.

Get Death Gone Awry from Lachesis Publishing, or on amazon, BN Nookkobo, or iBooks.

Cheers! and Happy Reading.

When a betrayal leads to finding a new love by Elaine Cantrell (romance author)

IMAG004Has a person you love ever betrayed you? If so, you aren’t alone. History seethes with stories of betrayal, many of which are committed by close friends or family members. Take the story of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, and Guinevere, for example. King Arthur was married to Guinevere who appeared to love him. However, when she met Sir Lancelot, she felt a powerful attraction to him. For a time she denied the attraction and avoided Lancelot, but ultimately she betrayed Arthur and contributed to the fall of Arthur’s kingdom Camelot.

Are you familiar with the story of Samson and Delilah? Samson was a strong warrior whose enemies tried and failed to destroy him. His lover Delilah betrayed him to his enemies by telling them how he could be defeated. He was taken prisoner and blinded. Ultimately, he got his revenge, but it was at the cost of his life.

Modern literature is also rife with betrayals. For instance, think of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind. She betrayed her own sister Suellen when she lied to Frank Kennedy and persuaded him to marry her instead of Suellen.

Betrayals aren’t only used as a device in novels. A great many Hollywood movies deal with some type of betrayal. Have you seen Payback with Mel Gibson? In this movie Mel is shot by his wife and best friend and left for dead, but he survives and sets out to get his revenge.

Of course, romantic betrayals aren’t the only kind. Think of how Benedict Arnold betrayed his country. His name is synonymous with treason. Another good example of a betrayal is when Brutus betrayed his good friend Julius Caesar. Brutus was one of the Roman senators who stabbed Caesar to death.

Don’t forget Disney either. In The Lion King, Mufasa’s brother Scar betrays him and manipulates Simba into running away, ultimately leaving the way clear for Scar to take power.

her-kind-of-manOn a personal note, I’ve written some pretty intense betrayals into my own work. Here’s a betrayal scene from Her Kind of Man which was released by Lachesis Publishing . In this excerpt, my heroine Kara and her sister Katie have gone to the movie together. Kara had a date with her fiancé, Brandon, but he called and cancelled. Kelly is Kara’s other sister.

“What a great movie!” Kara gushed as she and Katie left the theater. She tossed her empty popcorn box and leftover soda into the trash can by the door. “Mama and Daddy will want to see it too.”

Katie blew her nose and dabbed at her eyes. “I know. It was too sad for words.”

As they left the theater and crossed the parking lot, Katie turned her head at the sound of a car door slamming. “Why, there’s Kelly and Brandon.”

Kara looked in the direction of Katie’s pointing finger. “Great! They can….” Her voice trailed off as Kelly moved into Brandon’s passionate embrace.

“What…?” Kara’s words choked her as Brandon buried his hands in Kelly’s hair and kissed her as if he held the world’s greatest treasure in his arms.

Katie grabbed her arm. “Come on. We’re getting to the bottom of this.”

Kara dragged her feet as Katie towed her across the parking lot. “Katie, maybe….”

“What’s wrong with you?” Katie glared over her shoulder. “Hurry up!”

Kelly and Brandon were still wrapped around each other when Katie and Kara reached them.

“Kelly!” Katie exclaimed. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Kelly jerked away from Brandon so fast she stumbled and had to grab his arm to keep her balance. Even in the parking lot’s dim light, Kara saw her sister’s face had gone scarlet as had Brandon’s.

Kara didn’t say anything. She couldn’t.

Kelly flinched as Brandon took her hand and squeezed it. “I’m sorry, Kara. We never meant for you to find out this way.”

“What were you going to do?” Katie demanded with a wave of her hand. “Leave her at the altar?”

“No,” Kelly replied. Her eyes glittered like two burning blue coals. “We planned to tell her tomorrow night. That way she’d have the weekend off to…to…to get used to things.”

Brandon looked Kara directly in the face for the first time. “I’m sorry, Kara. You have to know I never meant to hurt you, but I can’t marry you if I’m in love with your sister.”

Kara didn’t bother to answer. She didn’t know what to say anyway. How do you act, what do you do, when you catch the man you love kissing your sister? Her sister! Oh, how could she? This betrayal by one of her nearest and dearest cut to the bone.

She gritted her teeth to hold back her tears and hurled Brandon’s beautiful ring toward him and Kelly. He tried to catch it, but he missed, and the ring landed at his feet.

“Let’s go, Katie,” she said. She spun on her heel and stomped away with her head held high.

ABOUT ELOISA JAMES:
New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James writes historical romances for Harper Collins Publishers. Her novels have been published to great acclaim. A reviewer from USA Today wrote of Eloisa’s very first book that she “found herself devouring the book like a dieter with a Hershey bar”; later People Magazine raved that “romance writing does not get much better than this.” Her novels have repeatedly received starred reviews from Publishers’ Weekly and Library Journal, and regularly appear on the best-seller lists.

After graduating from Harvard University, Eloisa got an M.Phil. from Oxford University, a Ph.D. from Yale and eventually became a Shakespeare professor, publishing an academic book with Oxford University Press. Currently she is a full professor in the English Department at Fordham University in New York City. Her “double life” is a source of fascination to the media and her readers. In her professorial guise, she’s written a New York Times op-ed defending romance, as well as articles published everywhere from women’s magazines such as More to writers’ journals such as the Romance Writers’ Report.

Eloisa…on her double life:

When I’m not writing novels, I’m a Shakespeare professor. It’s rather like having two lives. The other day I bought a delicious pink suit to tape a television segment on romance; I’ll never wear that suit to teach in, nor even to give a paper at the Shakespeare Association of America conference. It’s like being Superman, with power suits for both lives. Yet the literature professor in me certainly plays into my romances. Many of my novels have obvious Shakespearean resonances. I often weave early modern poetry into my work; the same novel might contain bits of Catullus, Shakespeare and anonymous bawdy ballads from the 16th century. Recent examples are When Beauty Tamed the Beast (2011), which is partly based on “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” and The Duke is Mine (2012), which includes some of the earliest extant bawdy limericks.

So I’m a writer, a professor, a mother—and a wife. My husband Alessandro is Italian, born in Florence. We spend the lazy summer months with his mother and sister in Italy. It always strikes me as a huge irony that as a romance writer I find myself married to a knight, a cavaliere, as you say in Italian.

Eloisa regularly interacts with her large fan base through Facebook and Twitter, where thousands of fans come to say hello, exchange comments about her novels, and learn more about an author they come to consider a friend.

Can a lie lead to love? An historical romance by DeAnn Smallwood

UnconquerableCallie_850 (1)(8)Tuesday’s REVOLVING BOOK is the historical romance UNCONQUERABLE CALLIE by DeANN SMALLWOOD.

Sometimes a lie can lead to love.

Publisher: SoulMate Publishing Offered through Kindle Direct Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/Unconquerable-Callie-ebook/dp/B00BLWBDF2/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362083762&sr=8-10&keywords=deann+smallwood

SYNOPSIS:
Callie Collins, a proud woman in the late 1800’s, is a liar and a darned good one, a master of the dubious art. She is also a dreamer. Her greatest hope is to reach a new life in South Pass City, Wyoming, where she can open a bakery and live an independent life. To be successful, she will need her greatest deception to date, a mythical fiancé who waits at the end of the line. As a woman alone, she has to prove to Seth McCallister, the wagon master, that she has the wherewithal and the stamina to survive months of drought, dust, hardships, and even the risk of death.

Seth McCallister is mystified by the audacity and determination of Callie Collins. His initial distrust and concern for Callie, a woman traveling alone, begins first as admiration, then friendship, then love, a love that he is forced to hold at bay. What he doesn’t realize is that there is no fiancé. To make matters worse, Callie develops feelings for Seth McCallister, too. Yet she feels certain that once he realizes her deception, he’ll turn away, ashamed of his love and trust in her.

REVIEWS: (AMAZON KINDLE)

Extremely well written. I found myself in the west, riding along on the wagon train with Callie struggling right along with her. Experiencing her every emotion, forging friendships, and falling in love I recommend this book to anyone with an adventurous spirit.

UNCONQUERABLE CALLIE is an enjoyable and entertaining love story. DeAnn Smallwood exhibits her talent for words with her tale of love, hardship, relationships, and determination. She does an excellent job of crafting a romance with the historical backdrop of a wagon train. Her depiction of the adventurous spirit of settlers, as well as the dangers and hardships they endured on their journey for a better life, was fascinating and excellent.

The heroine, Callie, a courageous woman determined to forge a life for herself, embarks on a treacherous excursion through Indian country, despite the obstacles or the dangers she must face. Along the way, her courage and giving nature wins the hearts of her fellow travelers, including the wagon master.

UNCONQUERABLE CALLIE is a sweet romance that will draw you in from the beginning to the end. It is resplendent with history, well-drawn characters, and vivid descriptions. The plot flows unfettered and solid with an engaging story line. This novel is for anyone who loves romance and history without sexual complications. A must read.

AUTHOR BIO:
DeAnn Smallwood lives in Colorado with her husband, Marvin and two Yorkies, Eli and Stormy. She is a native of Colorado, but has lived in Montana and Wyoming. Historical romances are one of her favorite genres to write. Recently, she branched out into the suspense/thriller genre and wrote the first novel in her death series: Death Crosses The Finish line. You can find her contemporary romance: Tears In The Wind, and two additional historical romances, Sapphire Blue and Montana Star at Amazon.com and SoulMate Publishing. She wanted to hide from society. He wouldn’t let her. Enchanting the Duke by Patricia Grasso (Regency historical romance)

Enchanting the Duke by Patricia GrassoToday’s Sneak Peek is Enchanting the Duke by Patricia Grasso.

Patricia Grasso is the author of eighteen historical romances including the Douglas Series which follows the love stories of the amazing Douglas sisters (Angelica, Samantha and Victoria) in Regency London and the Lords of Stratford Series, Regency historical romances with a fairy-tale twist about the aristocratic families in Stratford-on-Avon.

Enchanting the Duke

Book 1 ~ Lords of Stratford Series

She doesn’t want a guardian . . .

Lady Isabelle Montgomery wants to be left alone to play her flute and talk to Giselle, the guardian angel only she can see. Because Isabelle manages her brother’s estate finances, her greedy stepmother and selfish stepsisters continually harass her for fancy clothes and a season in London. For reasons she refuses to share, Isabelle has no desire to go to London. Unexpectedly, the Duke of Avon announces that he is her temporary guardian while her brother, the Earl of Stratford, has gone abroad. This complication annoys Isabelle who thinks the duke is thoroughly irritating. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? And why does Giselle keep telling her about a dark prince?

He doesn’t want a ward . . .

John Saint-Germain, the Duke of Avon, wants nothing to do with wards or stepfamilies. The duke suffered a moment’s weakness and promised the earl that he would watch over his sister, including sponsoring Isabelle and her stepsisters into society. And then John meets his stubborn, outspoken, thoroughly irritating ward. Her fiery beauty and independent spirit attract him. Is he falling in love? If only she’d stop talking to that imaginary friend.

Their enemies want to destroy them . . .

Both John and Isabelle have enemies who join forces to plot against them. John will brave any danger to protect Isabelle and his family. Even if it means seeing with his heart and believing in the impossible.

EXCERPT:

As she walked into the garden, Isabelle spied a solitary figure sitting on a stone bench. She smiled, recognizing her old friend, and then advanced on her.

“Are you here too?” Isabelle said by way of a greeting.

“No, I’m a figment of your imagination.”

“Very funny.”

“Shall we play?”

Isabelle nodded and sat on the bench beside her. She lifted her flute to her lips and poured all of her feelings into the instrument.

They played a song of infinite beauty, the notes first eerie and lilting, then haunting and reflective. The melody was a soothing bath of sound, reminiscent of a moonlit stroll, rustling leaves, echoing owls calling to each other in the night.

“I’ll see you inside.” Giselle vanished in an instant.

“Mistress Montgomery?” the Duke of Avon called. “Is that you?”

“Yes, Your Grace.” Was she forbidden a few moments of privacy? When the duke stood in front of her, Isabelle tilted her head back to gaze up the long length of him.

“You play divinely,” John said. “It sounded as if two people were playing.”

Had he heard Giselle’s flute? How could that be? No one but she had ever heard the old woman.

“How did you make it sound like a duo?”

“Garden acoustics.”

John nodded, accepting her explanation. “May I join you on the bench?”

“Suit yourself, Your Grace.” Isabelle slid over to make room for him.

He sat down beside her, so close his thigh teased the side of her cloak. Glancing down at the close proximity of their bodies, Isabelle felt her cheeks heat with embarrassment and sent up a silent prayer of thanks that the night hid her discomfort.

“I thought I saw someone sitting with you,” John said, slanting a sidelong glance at her.

Isabelle stared at him in surprise. Had he seen Giselle? Only she had ever seen the old woman. What did this mean?

“I assure you that I am alone. Who would be sitting with me?”

“A friend, perhaps?”

“I have no friends.”

“Not even an invisible friend?”

“If you saw her,” Isabelle countered, “then she wouldn’t be invisible.”

“It’s a woman, then?”

“Really, Your Grace, this conversation is ridiculous,” Isabelle said, trying to steer him away from the subject.

“You are correct.” He stared straight ahead.

A heavy silence descended upon them. Isabelle decided the silence between them was even more uncomfortable than his probing questions.

“You need not have defended me against Lobelia and Rue,” she told him. “My stepsisters are henwits.”

“Even henwits can create problems in society,” John warned, turning his head to look at her, which made her even more uncomfortable than enduring the silence. “Henwits are the worst purveyors of gossip.

“You could be correct about that.” Isabelle tore her gaze away from his. Lord, but those midnight-black eyes seemed to see to the very depths of her insecure soul.

“I mean no insult,” John continued, drawing her attention, “but when you come to London, you must refrain from thinking out loud, or you will never catch a husband.”

“If I want to catch something, I’ll go fishing,” Isabelle shot back. “I have no need of a husband.”

“Every woman needs a man to care for her,” John said in a quiet voice. “Any woman who believes otherwise possesses the intelligence of an oyster.”

“I didn’t mean that I would never marry,” Isabelle said. “When Miles returns, I will have my come-out and choose a husband.”

“You will have your come-out this spring with or without your brother’s presence,” John corrected her. “My mother never raised a daughter and is looking forward to introducing you into society. Of course, before that happens, you will need to learn certain rules of propriety.”

“I don’t give a rat’s arse about propriety.”

FOUR NIGHTS WITH THE DUKE:

Book 2 in the Desperate Duchesses by the Numbers series
As a young girl, Emilia Gwendolyn Carrington told the annoying future Duke of Pindar that she would marry any man in the world before him—so years later she is horrified to realize that she has nowhere else to turn.

Evander Septimus Brody has his own reasons for agreeing to Mia’s audacious proposal, but there’s one thing he won’t give his inconvenient wife: himself. Instead, he offers Mia a devil’s bargain… he will spend four nights a year with her.

Four nights, and nothing more. And those only when she begs for them. Which Mia will never do.

Now Vander faces the most crucial challenge of his life: he must seduce his own wife in order to win her heart—and no matter what it takes, this is the one battle he can’t afford to lose.

P.S.: Do you miss the wicked banter between Thorn and India, from Three Weeks with Lady X? Eloisa has a wonderful surprise for you: a deliciously intimate chapter that was cut from Four Nights. Why cut a love scene, you might ask? Well, the truth is that a pregnant India and a seductive Thorn threatened to steal the limelight from Mia and Vander!

To receive this bonus scene, visit Eloisa’s publisher and submit your proof of a preorder of Four Nights with the Duke. They will email everyone the deleted scene via a secret link on April 9, 2015. Don’t miss out!

Do you love the feel and smell of a real book? How about preordering a copy of FOUR NIGHTS from an indy bookstore? BONUS: they have gorgeous signed bookplates that they’ll send along with the book (and they will ship internationally)! http://bit.ly/1ELjkXI

Spooky vs. Scary and What’s Love Got To Do With It? by J.D. Spikes (YA paranormal romance author)

J.D. Spikes explores her fascination with the paranormal in her writing.

J.D. Spikes explores her fascination with the paranormal in her writing.

At its basest, the difference between spooky and scary is simple: spooky evokes a more emotional response while scary a more physical one. Spooky runs a shiver up your spine, perhaps makes you glance over your shoulder, but you continue on, drawn through the mist into the eerie darkness, the need to know overpowering your sense of risk. Scary pounds your heart, propels you into fight or flight, forcing you to scramble through the wet blanket of fog in a near-blind panic until you are safely away from the danger.

Halloween-loversSpooky draws people together. The heroine and hero need to stay close, and have each other’s back. They must talk about the peculiar events surrounding them, investigate the threat and find ways to beat it . . . together. Scary splits people up. Blood-pumping and heart-stopping, scary shouts ‘every man for himself’, and warns you to proceed at your own peril. Alone.

What exactly does any of this have to do with love? Everything, if you adore paranormal romance like I do. The chill of the story’s paranormal element joins the thrill of the hero and heroine’s attraction to mirror the scary realization of hearts on the line. Time travel, ghostly whispers, bumps in the night – mere shadows of the adventure falling in love brings.

So grab your favorite paranormal romance novel and your favorite guy. Love is in the air, and both are damn good reasons to hang on.
