From tomboy to debutante. She’s fighting it every step of the way. MY FAIR PRINCESS by Vanessa Kelly #amreading #Regency #romance @VanessaKellyAuth

Screen Shot 2016-09-01 at 6.39.13 PMLeverton didn’t seem to share her discomfort, since his arousal apparently hadn’t decreased at all. She had some knowledge of the male physique, from personal experience and observation of ancient statuary. If Leverton was not an anomaly, she was going to have to revise her understanding of the general dimensions of the male appendage.

Finally, he pushed up a bit, which nudged his erection against a certain delicate spot. Gillian couldn’t hold back a tiny squeak.

“Sorry,” he whispered with a grimace. Then he craned over the dune and breathed a relieved sigh. “I think we’re in the clear.”

“Then get off me at once,” Gillian ordered in a low voice.

“Right.” He sounded rather sheepish, as he should. But when he quickly rolled off her, Gillian had to stifle an instinctive sigh of regret.

There was little doubt she was suffering a bizarre form of insanity. Leverton had snuck up on her, squashed her, and generally treated her like a totty-headed female. And yet all she wanted to do was pull him back down, wrap her arms around his broad shoulders, and kiss him senseless.

TODAY’S REVOLVING BOOK is the historical romance MY FAIR PRINCESS by Vanessa Kelly. NEW RELEASE! #REGENCY!

First, Vanessa Kelly brought readers The Renegade Royals. Now, in a delightfully witty new series, she introduces The Improper Princesses—three young women descended from royalty, each bound for her own thrilling adventure . . .

Despite being the illegitimate daughter of a prince, Gillian Dryden is happily ignorant of all social graces. After growing up wild in Italy, Gillian has been ordered home to England to find a suitable husband. And Charles Valentine Penley, the excessively proper, distractingly handsome Duke of Leverton, has agreed to help transform her from a willful tomboy to a blushing debutante.

Powerful and sophisticated, Charles can make or break reputations with a well-placed word. But his new protégée, with her habit of hunting bandits and punching earls, is a walking scandal. The ton is aghast . . . but Charles is thoroughly intrigued. Tasked with taking the hoyden in hand, he longs to take her in his arms instead. Can such an outrageous attraction possibly lead to a fairytale ending?

STELLAR REVIEWS For MY FAIR PRINCESS:

“Gillian’s antics imbue her story with energy and some intrigue, but the most affecting part of Kelly’s tale is Charles’s development as he falls in love with Gillian and breaks free of complacency and propriety. This is a fun ride with a colorful, adventurous heroine and a happily disconcerted, formerly perfect hero.” ~Publishers Weekly

“When a scandal-ridden heroine meets the perfect duke, it’s a recipe for catastrophe. Throw in sparkling dialogue and attraction that sizzles and MY FAIR PRINCESS is my favorite book of 2016″ – Bronwen Evans, USA Today Bestselling Historical Author

For The Renegade Royals Series:

“Kelly combines diverting dialogue, delightful surprises, and finely tuned pacing to make this a winner.” ~Starred review from Publishers Weekly for SECRETS FOR SEDUCING A ROYAL BODYGUARD

“Kelly pairs a rogue of a hero with a courageous heroine. With a few returning characters, an abandoned infant, political intrigue and forgiveness, Kelly keeps her readers’ attention until the highly satisfying end to a sensual, well-plotted and wonderfully crafted love story.” ~RT Book Reviews, 4-1/2 stars on CONFESSIONS OF A ROYAL BRIDEGROOM

HOW TO MARRY A ROYAL HIGHLANDER kept me in stitches! What I found most refreshing was the unique plot, which is sometimes difficult to find with these historical romances, as the typical trope is so tried and true. However, Highlander definitely had my rapt attention.” ~Smexy Books

Celebrate Samhain with a Paranormal Romance about a Pagan Healer by Teri Barnett (paranormal romance author)

image: jinxmim.deviantart.com

image: jinxmim.deviantart.com

Halloween. All Hallow’s Eve. Eve of All Saints. Samhain.

All these names for one night, but it’s the last one which touches me most. Sow-wen. Its Celtic origins mark it as the original name for what we’ve come to call Halloween. For me, the name conjures images of Priestesses and their Woodsmen consorts, dancing with abandon between twin bonfires. Additional fires burn throughout the hillsides for protection and to light the darkness. The harvest is over and another cycle is complete. The Celtic New Year has begun and the Crone begins her transformational journey toward the Spring Maiden.

pagan-fireWhen I first started researching my historical/paranormal/romance novel, PAGAN FIRE, I dove headfirst into ancient Celtic ceremony and traditions. The lure of ritual touched me at a cellular level and I knew I had been there with those women of long ago. This knowledge drew me to apprentice – and later create – my own priestess circles where I invite women to reconnect to the time when our bodies were in tune with the turning of the seasons.

The Autumnal Equinox passes and Samhain looms. The Wise Woman turns inward.

The underworld beckons.

The Goddesses of Shadow extend their thin, bony hands and invite us to enter their realm . . . Inanna, Hecate, Persephone, Nephthys . . . it matters not what you name her, these are all faces of the same energy. Collectively, they call us to die to old ways of living that we might be reborn at the Vernal Equinox. Shiny. Pink. New. Ready to live again with knowledge accrued from the inner reflection of our own wintry death.

image: nightt-angell.deviantart.com

image: nightt-angell.deviantart.com

These Goddesses teach us that dying is not the end, it’s simply a turning of the page on this earthly journey. Samhain marks this time as a night where the veil is the thinnest between this world and the next. It’s the place of ‘in-between’ when we might touch those who have crossed the bridge before us.

Samhain ritual inspires us to pay our respects to the dead. Place apples or other fruit near the front door for them. Light a fire that they may better see their path (or place carved and lit pumpkins in your window, though turnips were the original option!). Visit a graveyard, sit amongst the headstones, and keep the spirits company. Hold a Dumb Dinner in remembrance of your ancestors. Dumb meaning you don’t speak during the meal as a way of honoring the dead (this works out wonderfully as a pitch-in to include friends and family).

image: cimiarte.com

image: cimiarte.com

Or, simply sit quietly and reflect on those who went before you. Send them love and light on their journey. You might also ask them for messages, but be sure to light candles and surround yourself with a circle of salt first. While the point of all this is to honor and appreciate the dead, a little protection never hurts when inviting spirits into your world.

And, if you’re called, dance! Remember, Samhain is a celebration, not a mourning!

Get to know a Lachesis Publishing Author (Patricia Grasso – historical romance author) (free e-book)

pagan-brideToday, Patricia Grasso tells us a bit about herself and her writing. Patricia is an award-winning, and national best-selling author, who has been writing for many years. Patricia has several historical romance titles at Lachesis Publishing, including the Scottish historical romance Pagan Bride about a psychic heroine in Queen Mary’s court, and the Regency romance series The Douglas series about three sisters in Regency England.

When did you first realize you wanted to become a writer and why?

I never (consciously) realized I wanted to become a writer until I actually became a writer. Ditto for teaching. My late-parents lived through the Great Depression so, even if I’d had a great yearning to write a book, my father would have told me to get my teaching credentials first. Teachers get regular paychecks and health insurance. Later, I realized that my favorite authors wrote one book per year.  Once read, I would need to wait another year. So I decided to write a book, but only talked about writing for five years. Finally, a friend asked when I was going to stop talking and start writing. So I started writing. I wrote for five years before I sold my first book, which was my actual first book.  Sounds great, huh? No way. Most writers have a few unpublished manuscripts collecting dust under the bed. With my first book published, all my mistakes were “public” mistakes

Describe your favourite place to write?

I create at my writing desk, not my computer desk, facing a blank wall. No television, no music. My book planning and first draft is done with pen and paper. Only then do I sit at the computer.

What would I find on your desk at this very moment?

The short answer is usually a cat. I know you want the long answer so here goes. I keep a dictionary, the old fashioned printed-in-a-book kind.  There are also two other books: a book of proverbs and a book of Shakespeare quotations. I also keep extra large index cards for my planning and first draft. The extension of my writing desk is the walls beside and in front of the desk. Here I place poster boards: one is for hero and heroine, one is for secondary characters, and one is for information I will use frequently. Beside my writing desk stands a floor lamp, the kind with a swing arm. Hanging from the arm is a good luck charm Hannah Howell brought me from England. Resting on the chair is a red briefcase that holds my “stuff” for my  work in progress (schedule for writing, printed chapters, scraps of papers with ideas). I did leave my “stuff” on the desk until my cats trained me to put my “stuff” away.

What is your tea/coffee beverage of choice when you’re writing?

I drink six to eight glasses of water every day, mostly with meals. Through the day, I drink strong coffee with soy milk, no sugar.

What do you love to read?

I love to read happy endings. Most genres: romance, historical, horror, mystery. I don’t want 21st century “realism” when I read. I want an “escape from real life” interlude.

What is some good advice you can give to an emerging writer?

Persistence, persistence, persistence. Quitters never win and winners never quit. I know authors who received close to a hundred rejections and now sit on the New York Times and USA best-selling lists. Have faith in your ability. Never stop learning about writing. Be kind to other writers.

What do you do after you finish a book? Do you celebrate or take a nap?

I start the next book.  Honestly, I really do start the next book. No nap, no celebration.

You write wonderfully rich historical romances – including Regencies. Your Regency Historical Romance series about the Douglas sisters features three heroines who each carry a heavy burden. Tell us about them and why you chose to write stories that explored very real issues in addition to the romance.

TO CATCH A COUNTESS COVERTO CHARM A PRINCETO TEMPT AN ANGEL COVERAngelica, Samantha, and Victoria are the daughters of a deceased, alcoholic earl who had fallen on hard times. Angelica is the oldest and most confident who wants revenge on the man who scammed her father. I can relate to that.  My Irish-Scots mother taught her children never to hit anyone first.  If someone hit us, then we should always hit back. I believe characters and real-life people should get what they deserve. Samantha and Victoria are different from Angelica.  Samantha walks with a limp and Victoria suffers from dyslexia. Both sisters must overcome feelings of inferiority. Think back to your own childhood/teenage years. Most of us had something that made us feel insecure. I use real problems because perfect people make boring characters.

You have a gift for writing child characters. The children in your books are a joy and often steal the show. Where do you draw inspiration from when creating your child characters?

I love kids. Everything we needed to know we learned in kindergarten. Five and six year olds emulate their adults, repeat what they hear, develop adults’ attitudes.Their lack of experience makes them humorous. I taught older children (grades 8 through 12) for 30 years and discovered that, no matter how old or big we are, the inner kindergartener is still there. I had an English class of juniors, most of whom were the big bad linemen on the football team. At five feet tall, I had entered the land of giants. Most were six feet and weighed more than two hundred pounds. These big bad linemen made me laugh every day because they were kindergarten kids in a full-grown body.

What are you working on next for Lachesis?

I love fairy tales, and my next two books are inspired by two favorites—Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

Isabelle Montgomery (book one) is an orphan with an absentee brother who enlists a duke (the hero) to act as Isabelle’s legal guardian while he (the brother) leaves England on business. Isabelle has the proverbial evil stepmother and two nasty stepsisters. Everyone believes Isabelle is “unhinged” because she talks to herself. Isabelle is actually speaking to a smart-mouthed fairy godmother/ guardian angel

Miles Montgomery is the hero of the Beauty and the Beast tale. Several years after Isabelle’s story, Miles is burned trying to save his wife. Having retired from society, he wears a mask on the scarred side of his face. Enter our heroine, a princess in need of a husband. Like most men, Miles wants an heir, and a marriage deal is struck between him and the princess. With the princess’s help, Miles learns that true beauty comes from within.

Author Bio:
Dayna Leigh Cheser

Writing ‘runs in the family.’ My mother is a multi-published non-fiction author, and my two brothers make a living writing, one as a newspaperman, the other as a copywriter. My sister edits her church newsletter.

My father was a school teacher/reading specialist/school principal when I was little. During story-time one night when I was four years old, I stopped him and asked how he said the same thing every time he read that story to me. That night, he started teaching me to read. It began a life-long love affair between books and me—for that, I am grateful.

In junior high, I wrote short stories to entertain classmates. In high school, one English assignment was to write my autobiography. In the teacher-specified chapter entitled ‘Future Plans,’ being a published writer topped the list.

After a college professor told me I ‘couldn’t write my way out of a paper bag,’ I stopped writing for many years. Then, in the late 1970s, I wrote an article for “World Radio News” (San Diego, CA) about our amateur radio club providing communications for a March of Dimes Walkathon.

In early 2002, between jobs and wanting to write, I sought a third-shift position and used the ‘free time’ to write what became ‘Janelle’s Time.’ When it was complete, I shelved it. In 2009, the WIP came off the shelf. By August 2011, it was ready—at last—for submission.

In 2009, I started a Twitter account, @Writers_Cafe. I feel as if I’ve earned a degree in ‘book publishing’ since then! You can learn so much from 15,000 followers.

I penned an article about @RileyCarney, a Colorado teen, and very prolific YA fantasy author, who heads her own non-profit literacy project. Never officially published, countless people have seen it, thanks to Twitter retweets and some carefully chosen email inboxes.

On New Year’s Day, 2010, I went ‘live’ with my blog. It has evolved into a combination of chronicling my writing journey and hopefully helpful posts on publishing industry topics.

Janelle’s Time is Book 1 of my TIME Series. Book 2, ‘Moria’s Time’ was my NaNoWriMo project for 2011. I hope to have it ready for submission in late 2012 or early 2013. The remaining books are: ‘Adelle’s Time’ (2012 NaNoWriMo project), ‘Logan’s Time (a WIP),’ and ‘Clarissa’s Time’ (2013 NaNoWriMo project).

I’m very excited about the release of ‘Janelle’s Time.’ It’s the culmination of a life-long dream—and is only the beginning of my retirement career.

My husband, Pete, and I have been married over forty-four years—no children. We lived in New England all our lives until 1992, when we moved to southwest Florida.

Now they must unravel the secrets behind the ancient cult and find Sarah before she’s lost forever. As their quest unfolds, they discover an even deeper unexpected journey – one filled with sorrow, loss, and redemption.

AUTHOR BIO:

Growing up in the ’70’s, I read every romance novel I could find, vowing one day to write my own. It took me until the 90’s to start writing seriously, but in the span of about ten years, I crafted four novels, a novella, and many short stories. The first novel I wrote, Hunter Moon, will never be seen. But first novels tend to be that way.

SYNOPSIS:

As the cleansing fires of Beltain burned and the villagers danced, Maere cu Llwyr witnessed the garrote murder of her parents at the hands of her father’s brother. Born with the triple signs of the goddess, legend tells that whoever shares Maere’s bed first will also share her healing power – and her uncle, Eugis, has vowed it will be he. With her mother and father out of his way, he hides Maere in a convent with plans to retrieve – and bed her – on her eighteenth birthday.

Maere carries no memory of the horrific events of that Beltain night. All she knows of her childhood is contained in remnants of dreams and a growing ability to heal through touch. Fearing she’ll be punished for this power, she hides herself away from the scrutiny of the nuns, determined to discover the secrets of her past so she might better understand the present and where her future lies.

Dylan mac Connall, betrothed of the girl Maere, never forgot that bloody night when he saw his own father murdered as well. Having escaped capture by Eugis’ men, he grows to adulthood under the tutelage of an old woman who helps him discover his own magic. But the magic does not appease his soul and he becomes consumed with hatred and plots of revenge against Eugis, becoming determined it will be he who takes Maere first.

But when Dylan enters the abbey and discovers the woman Maere has become, he finds himself taking on the role of protector when Eugis – aided by the goddess Morrigu and the Viking forces surrounding their lands – makes good on his promise and returns for Maere, setting off a series of events which can only be resolved with one of their deaths.
