OUR REVOLVING BOOK TUESDAY EDITION IS THE PARANORMAL ROMANTIC SUSPENSE “THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN” BY PATRICIA A. RASEY

TITLE THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN

GENRE: PARANORMAL ROMANTIC SUSPENSE

PUBLISHER: KINDLE  http://tinyurl.com/89lkdts

AMAZON Kindle: http://tinyurl.com/7p6f6do
BARNES AND NOBLE NOOK: http://tinyurl.com/7xs25rr

SYNOPSIS:

Tevan Zaber wants to be a detective. But how far is he willing to go to get there? Thrust into the dark underworld of real vampires, reality begins to blur into the society of role-playing. Can Krystal Braxton, who wrestles with her own demons, save Tevan from becoming one of them? Together they must infiltrate the occult covens to save the city from a blood-thirsty killer resurrected from a year’s old case as they enlist the help of Fairview Park’s lieutenant, Cole Kincaid.

THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN is the thrilling follow-up to DEADLY OBSESSION.

REVIEWS:

If possible, THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN is even better than DEADLY OBSESSION. Patricia Rasey has done a fantastic job in continuing DEADLY OBSESSION in this story. THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN would do well as a stand-alone novel as well. Again, we have a flawed hero, dealing with his failed marriage. Add to this, one really wounded heroine in Krystal, trying to deal with the abuse of her father, and we have one fantastic story, in addition to the solving of the murders and delving into the Vampyre Society of today. If you like romantic suspense, don’t miss this one!

Chere Gruver for Romance Junkies http://www.romancejunkies.com/

4 1/2 Stars! Patricia Rasey takes you on a wild ride through the dark side of life with this intriguing story. Prepare to be blown away by the killer. If you weren’t a fan before, you definitely will be now!

Kathy Boswell for RT Book Reviews http://www.rtbookreviews.com/

Just the creative voyeuristic thrill of briefly living in this world, by way of the path blazed by author Patricia Rasey, is enough to make THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN a must read. Daring and bold, Rasey presents the shadowy world of vampyres with a unique darkness that proves mesmerizing. The style is fiercely unrelenting, marking Rasey indelibly as a harsh truth teller. Although her genre is fiction, her characters are real and frightening, and not even main characters are safe from the evil that haunts Rasey’s work. Further, Rasey’s exploration of self-mutilation is both knowledgeable and tasteful, lending a shocking vulnerability to a striking character. Indeed, THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN is gripping, gritty, and fascinating, coming very highly recommended.

Cindy Penn for Word Weaving

THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN is a thrill-read, intense, fast and unpredictable. The reader will be tempted to “close your eyes and don’t look” but from the first grizzly murder to the last, the reader is glued to the pages waiting breathlessly for the killer to be unmasked and brought down.

For an adrenaline rushing read, I highly recommend THE HOUR BEFORE DAWN.

SNEAK PEEK:

A knock sounded on his door, startling him. Since moving here, Tev had not had a single visitor. No one besides the department knew where he lived. Fearing something had happened to his family, Tev jumped up from his chair and opened the door. He wasn’t sure what he expected, but certainly not a fang-toothed Raven.

Tev left the door cracked, not inviting the young man in. “How the hell did you find out where I lived? Taken to following me?”

He’d need to be more careful of his whereabouts and surroundings in the future. If his cover were blown, they wouldn’t have a chance in hell of catching the killer.

“You going to invite me in?”

Role-player or real, Tevan wasn’t sure, but either way, Raven would not step across his threshold. The rules stated a vampire must first be invited. “Tell me why I should? You have business here?”

Raven leaned a shoulder against the doorjamb and crossed his arms over his chest. “Just wanting to find out your angle.”

Tev knew Raven sized him up. He wondered if he thought him a threat where Krystal was concerned. Narrowing his gaze, Tev asked again, “How did you find out where I lived?”

“Super-natural powers.”

“I don’t buy that, and I don’t think you do either.”

Raven chuckled. “I followed you home from the club.”

“Why?”

He shrugged. “I was intrigued and a bit skeptical, if you will.”

Tevan knew a big share of male vampyres were gay or bisexual. He hoped Raven’s intrigue didn’t include being interested in Tev sexually. “I’m not into guys.”

“Who says I am?” Raven challenged.

“You followed me home.”

He held his arms out to the side, booted feet crossed, in a Christ-like pose. “I said I was intrigued, not interested. Besides, I knew you weren’t into guys.”

“How’s that?”

“Krystal.”

“What about her?”

“You going to let me in, or do I have to stand out here all day?”

Tev opened the door. “Come in,” he invited, picking up shirts and pants littering the floor and throwing them into a basket in the corner. “Sorry, I didn’t expect company.”

Raven walked slowly around the room, taking in every corner. He picked up objects, glanced carefully at them, before returning them to their spot. Tev felt as if he were being assessed. Every inch of his existence scrutinized by this man.
Stopping in front of the computer, Raven glanced at the screen. “Looks like you need to get out more.”

“That’s the problem…I don’t go out much at all.”

“Any reason?”

Tev took the opening Raven offered. “I don’t identify with many.”

Raven looked up from the screen. “Meaning?”

“I live a life contrary to what people perceive as normal. I walk at night. I hunt.”

Raven appeared to study his face, judging how much of Tev’s self-profession to believe. “And what is it you hunt?”

“Life force. Raw energy.”

“Hunting is a synonym for pursuing, certainly not something that requires the other’s consent. You take without permission?”

“I don’t need approval.”

Raven pursed his lips. “A true hunter. Either you’re of the Blood as you say, or a poser. Which is it?”

“What do you think?”

Raven crossed his arms over his chest again and looked at Tev. “I don’t know what to think. That’s why I’m here.”

“You think you can somehow lay proof to my claim?”

Raven shrugged. “Depends on what you have to prove. Can you smell me?”

“I smell the thick blood running through your veins, if that’s what you mean.”

“Do you desire it?”

Shit.

Raven reached into his leather jacket’s pocket and pulled out a shiny straight razor still in its cardboard sheath. “Prove it.”
If he told Raven “no,” then chances were that he’d never believe Tevan was of the Blood. He certainly couldn’t use disease as an excuse, because most true vampyres didn’t fear death, they embraced it. But getting AIDS scared the hell out of him.

Before Tevan could come up with an excuse about why he could not do what Raven offered, a thin red line ran down the man’s arm. Blood seeped from the cut and dripped to the floor. Raven held out his arm. He raised a brow in challenge. “Hungry?”

Tev swallowed; his stomach quivered in disgust. If he ever got his hands on Whitey’s throat, it wouldn’t be too soon.

Tevan had just backed himself into a corner. And unless he did some fast-talking, he’d be forced to corroborate his affirmations. Drinking blood had not been part of his deal with Whitey. The thought of it sent his stomach rolling….

SNEAK TEASE:
In four months, I am going to become a mother.

“You felt the baby move?” Claudia asks, her eyes lighting up.

“Mmm-hmm.”

Claudia squeals in delight then places her hand gently on my ever-growing stomach, as if hoping to catch the baby in action. “I can’t believe it. Before we know it, you’re going to have a baby.”

“I know. Amazing how things can change in a year.”

Last year, I was in the dumps when my marriage ended. My husband, Charles, was having an affair. But worse than that, I found out he was embezzling money from the Wishes Come True charity, where he’d been a member of the board. Dom was an auditor investigating the embezzlement and, long story short, we fell hard for each other. One minute, my life had been at its lowest point being married to a man who didn’t love me, and who had become the subject of a huge public scandal. The next, I was on cloud nine, never imagining that I could be this happy.

The happiness of the moment dissipates as my eyes land on the newspaper Claudia has spread on the table. “You think she knows?” I ask.

Claudia shrugs. “Maybe. Probably. She works in the news. She must have heard something at the station.”

“Then again, maybe not,” I say. “It’s not like she does the entertainment beat. And she doesn’t work weekends. So…” I let my statement trail off as I take a seat across from Claudia, figuring my words are wishful thinking at best.

I look at the picture in the Atlanta Journal Constitution she’s been reading, upside-down from my vantage point. But I can still make out the photo and the headline: One of Atlanta’s Most Eligible Bachelors Is Off the Market.

“Then again,” Claudia begins, “even if she’s heard, it’s not like it’s a big deal. She’s over Rugged.”

I meet Claudia’s eyes and stare at her for a long moment, wondering if she believes her own words. Sure, Lishelle has told us over and over again that she doesn’t want a relationship with Rugged. She has stressed that he was simply a fling. And granted, she’s the one who broke up with him. But still, I have never quite believed that she wasn’t really into him.

Lishelle went through a bitch of a breakup with a guy she was crazy about before she met Rugged—although breakup isn’t the right word, since Glenn wasn’t hers to begin with. I know how hard it was for me to learn my husband was cheating on me, so I can only imagine that it was far more devastating for Lishelle to discover that her college flame—the one she still held a torch for—lied about being married when he came back into her life years later. The prick had used her for her money, stringing her along real good until he was able to steal a ton of cash from her. Ever since that betrayal—and considering she was also married before but divorced because her husband cheated on her—she’s been understandably guarding her heart.

At least, that’s my opinion. Because with Rugged—a local rap sensation and six years her junior—she was a different person. Happier, more vibrant. And she hasn’t quite been the same since she told him that their relationship could never go anywhere, and subsequently ended things with him.

Still, I say to Claudia, “I guess you’re right. She’s the one who broke up with him.”

“Exactly,” Claudia stresses, and then her eyes flit over my shoulder. Quickly, she grabs the newspaper, folds it and tosses it under the booth. Which tells me Lishelle has arrived.

And it also tells me that what Claudia just said—that the news of Rugged’s engagement will be no big deal to Lishelle—is hogwash.
