She tugged at his elbow. “Why are you being like this?”

His gaze met hers and then skittered away. “Like what?”

“Like you don’t want to talk about us and where we stand. Look, I said I’m sorry for not telling you about my trust fund. I-I really do want to give our marriage a chance. If it makes you feel better, I’ll refuse my inheritance.”

She’d thought about it long and hard, and that was the only offer she could make that would show him how she felt. Maybe they’d be short on money for a while, but she could apply for a scholarship and earn her education degree that way. And she still had her pottery studio.
She just couldn’t stand to lose him. He completed her and made her feel safe and cherished. She’d be devastated if he abandoned her. Erika clung to his arm as though the physical contact would convince him to remain.

“You would give up your family’s money for me?” A muscle in his jaw twitched as he gave her a sideways glance.

“If you’d decide to stay as a result, yes, I would.”

“I see.” Still he didn’t respond other than with terse words. His lips compressed, and he maintained his forward pace.

Maybe she’d been wrong about him. Maybe he didn’t really care about her at all. His mission was what mattered, and she’d merely been a means to an end. As soon as they vanquished Loki, he’d be free to return home.

ABOUT CARLIE:

I have always been a sucker for a good love story, especially with angst. I have read most of Nicholas Spark’s books for this very reason. I had no idea that I would be writing a book let alone three a year ago. My books are a work of fiction with some real events that happened to me woven in.

I began writing Fallen for You in October 2012 after I had the pleasure of meeting a well-known indie author who inspired me to push forward and complete my story. At the time, I thought Fallen for You was just going to be one book, but it has blossomed into three books. Taken by You and book 3 Given to You complete The Killer Next Door series. I wove real life and fiction together to create the series.

My latest release, Beholden is a stand-alone, but a spin-off of characters from my trilogy. It has been amazing to bring characters to life and watch them grow on the pages of my manuscript.

I have several more books in mind that I want to bring to life.

I am a second grade teacher  in my 9th year. Teaching has been so rewarding because I get to impart my love for reading onto my students. There’s nothing better than seeing a child’s face light up when they are reading a great book.

I currently reside in Southern California with my loving husband and two dogs. We enjoy the lifestyle that California has to offer and spend time at the beach and in the mountains.

AUTHOR BIO

This is the first I have read from JoMarie DeGioia and won’t be the last. The book grabbed my attention from the first page. I loved how hot Paul and Michelle’s attraction was from the beginning till the end. These two completed each other in every way from their expressions to opinions to their fiery tempers. I loved that every time Paul let his pride get in the way Michelle fought him. Pride and Fire was a great book and a highly recommended favorite from this reader.

Paul slowly turned toward the doorway and froze. He watched as, with a swish of her skirts, Michelle Thomas came into the room.

“Lord Kanewood,” she said, pleasure clear on her lovely face. “Rebecca! How have you been?”

Paul could only stare.  She was more beautiful than he remembered. Her fiery red hair was caught up behind her head, rich curls left loose to frame her face. Here eyes, golden brown and fringed by thick lashes, sparkled. And Lord she smelled of Lavender. His senses were so filled with her he barely heard Becca speak.

“Michelle,” Becca said. “How nice to see you again.” She cleared her throat and went on. “I believe you know Lord Leed.”

Michelle turned to face him. Her gorgeous eyes widened and he felt her regard like a caress. He quickly tamped down his response to her.

“Pleasure to see you again Lady Michelle,” he said coolly, bowing to her.

Michelle visibly stiffened and returned a look nearly as cool. She squared her shoulders and dropped a short curtsy, her full lips pressed together.

Becca smiled, drawing her husband’s attention. He leaned toward her. “Becca?”

Paul saw her give him a quick shake of her head to silence him. What was this?…..
