He’s a real prince but his heart is all cowboy. There’s only one woman he wants but can he reclaim what was lost? THE FORGOTTEN PRINCE by @PatriciaMcLinn #newrelease #amreading #western #romance

the-forgotten-princeToday’s Revolving Book is #NEW RELEASE  – THE FORGOTTEN PRINCE:

They Have a History — Can It Be Rewritten?

Prince Karl longs to once more be plain Karl Wethers, Wyoming rancher. Instead, his  sense of responsibility, nurtured as a cowboy and honed in the U.S. Army, won’t let him turn his back on King Jozef of Bariavak. But he has a plan. If he can pull it off.

Then international media consultant Harmon Reed re-enters his life. The Army brat who liked to juggle lit sticks of dynamite is now a woman who could explode that dynamite in his face. He’s fully occupied with trying to keep her from knowing anything about the complications of his royal life, because he will never trust her again, despite the pull of a love long gone.

For Harmon, what started as a youthful summer fling ignited into a love that shook her to her core. Equally smitten, Karl saw something beyond her beauty and rebellious streak. Then Harmon broke it off – and broke Karl’s heart. They went their separate ways, but no matter how far apart they traveled, the embers of first love remained. And the slim hope of a second chance floated in the periphery.

The-Games-by-Patricia-McLinnJust in time for the Olympics! Check out USA today bestselling author Patricia McLinn’s GOLD MEDAL contemporary romance set amidst the excitement of the Olympic Games. THE GAMES is today’s Revolving Book.
“Patricia McLinn wins gold with this sparkling romance! The Games is your ticket behind the cameras and inside the hearts of the winter Olympics.” – Carla Neggers, New York Times bestselling author

Today the world will turn its eyes — and TVs — to Rio de Janeiro and the Summer Olympics. Medals can be won, careers can be made and hearts can be lost in the 16 days of The Games, as author Patricia McLinn captures in her heart-warming, pulse-pounding romance that follows three U.S. athletes at the top — and twilight — of their competitive callings.

Tess Rutledge, once an Olympic champion figure skater, returns to the Winter Games as a coach, encountering her first love — and only heartbreak — and testing her ability to forgive. Alpine skier Kyle Armstrong has made a terrible mistake that could cost her a shot at Olympic gold as well as any hope of reconciling with the man she loves. Biathlete Rikki Lodge thinks she’s just happy to be at the Games, until she meets a hockey player who demands that she do what she’s never done before: put it all on the line.

In The Games, longtime sports journalist and best-selling novelist Patricia McLinn takes you inside the athletes village. Patricia’s award-winning books have gained fans around the world. Of her most recent releases, Booklist said: “beautifully written, richly emotional love stories that are a joy to read.”

Fate could be as cruel as people. She learned that anew in the instant she caught sight of the man staring at her. A man from another world, another time, sitting close enough now that she could see the winter night’s breeze ruffling his blond hair, his too-long-remembered blue eyes piercing into her. 4 AND 5 STAR Reviews on Amazon!  http://goo.gl/Mcngqy

ABOUT THE STORY: Ben McCabe has only one thing on his mind when he’s released from the Yuma Territorial Prison for a crime he didn’t commit: Revenge. Four years of his life gone, spent in a torturous hellhole. He wants the man responsible brought to justice, regardless of the cost. When Wisteria Bush finds an unconscious man next to the Colorado River, she knows she has to help him, no matter how dangerous he may be. She nurses him back to health to find he is a threat to her, but not in a way she’d ever imagined. When her brother takes up cattle rustling and intends to marry her to his boss, the handsome stranger has other ideas.
DeANN SMALLWOOD AUTHOR BIO: I live in Colorado with my husband and my two Yorkie kid dogs: Stormy, four pounds, and Eli, six pounds. I’m a native of Colorado, but I’ve lived several years in Wyoming and Montana. I draw from these beautiful states for most of my books. My Western Historical Romances are: Montana Star, Sapphire Blue, Unconquerable Callie, One Shingle To Hang, and Wyoming Heather and One Shingle To Hang. Tears In The Wind is a contemporary romance. Then I changed genres from my beloved romances and wrote, under the pen name of D. M. Woods, my first suspense/thriller: Death Crosses The Finish Line. The second book in this ‘death’ series, Death Is A Habit, came out January 8, 2014. I am currently working on the third book in the ‘death’ series, Death Walks C Dock. I am also working on another Western Historical Romance, Montana Man. It features the characters readers came to know and love in Montana Star. Truly, I mean it when I say my greatest pleasure next to writing is having my books read and enjoyed. There are many more stories just waiting to be written

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Six years ago, rodeo cowboy Matt Halderman ran out on a spunky, wide-eyed student he’d just met.  Now he’s found that a chance meeting with an eccentric billionaire has resulted in an inheritance that will allow Matt to do something he’s long dreamed of – caring for rodeo horses at the end of their lives.

Zoe Parisi hasn’t forgotten Matt or the night he walked out on her.  She lost her head that night, but it’s been squarely back on her shoulders ever since. A doctor now, she is on track to take over an established practice in Knighton, Wyoming.  She’d been sure when she decided to settle in Knighton that Matt would never return to the ranch where he grew up. But now, here he comes, waltzing back into town … looking just as good as ever and with a bunch of money.

wyo wildflowers seriesWHERE LOVE LIVES:  The just-released Book 6 of Patricia McLinn’s Wyoming Wildflowers series, “Where Love Lives,” also is part of The Inheritance, a 12-author project that tells how eccentric billionaire Harold Hopewell’s bequests affect the life – and loves – of 12 people he chanced to meet. Each book is told in the author’s style, from sweet romance to mystery to erotica. In “Where Love Lives,” Zoe and Matt tussle over the best use of Hopewell’s bequest to the rodeo cowboy. But a deeper question looms: Will one night stand in the way of their spending the rest of their days together?

You’re an indie author also known as a “self-published” author. Tell us how you got started down the indie road and why?

PAR: A very good friend of mine talked me into it. I had two books I had the rights back to and I hadn’t done anything with them. They sat there collecting dust. This author friend of mine bought me a cover and 5 day ad to promote it for Christmas one year. All I had to do was take a leap of faith. Four years later, I’m still self-publishing and making more money than I was with my previous publisher.

51dS6rHwvAL._SX166_SY265_51hqg7xtcUL._SX166_SY265_513KwnPJGfL._SX166_SY265_You’re a bestselling author on Amazon – which of your books hit the Amazon bestseller list, how high did they go, and how many copies did you sell? And best of all – how did you celebrate?

PAR: My first bestseller was Viper, the first book in my Sons of Sangue series. It stayed in the top ten Hot New Releases for two weeks. Its highest rank was #3 there. It stayed in Paranormal Romance releases top one-hundred for the first month. I believe the highest rank there was #11. Hawk (book 2) and Gypsy (book 3) made both those lists again, as well as the demons category. But I don’t recall their numbers. Neither got as high as Viper did, but the money brought on that first month was still pretty great for me. I don’t recall the number of books at all, without having to look it up, but quite a bit fewer than if I hit those numbers with all books. To celebrate, I did so quietly with my hubby and a couple of friends over wine. I’m not much of a big party type gal.

Tell us why you like to write in these areas? And how would you describe your voice?

PAR: I pretty much write paranormal romance now because it is what’s selling for me, paranormal with dark suspense undertones. I really have always been fascinated with police work. I have a brother who is a detective and a son that’s a deputy sheriff. I guess it runs in the family. When I was doing strictly romantic suspense, I used to ask myself what scares me, then write it. I was giving myself nightmares. Now that I don’t write as dark, the nightmares have stopped. I have just always been fascinated with the darker side of the human character. As for my voice, hmmm . . . that’s a tough one. I never really think about it. I just write and I know when I’m in that zone because it feels right.

415DzaZE-zL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Let’s say I’m new to Patricia A. Rasey – I’ve just discovered you either through facebook or amazon or through a friend. What kind of story am I going to be getting in a Patricia A. Rasey book?

PAR: I have always said I hate describing my work. The one question I fear is: tell me about your book. I want to turn it over and say read the blurb. I just suck at talking about them. You will definitely get a book that’s a bit darker in nature. There won’t be a lot of comedy elements (unless you pick up my ghost novella. Spirit Me Away was my one attempt and it was a lot of fun to write). You will also get more than a romance. I try to weave a suspense into everything I write. A lot of readers say I’m full of twists and turns and you don’t always see things coming.

What are three pros to being an indie author?

PAR: Having the independence to decide things like cover, editor. Getting the money monthly and like clockwork. Most of these vendors pay promptly. And having complete control of your career.

Author Patricia A. Rasey is building her own successful publishing career.

Author Patricia A. Rasey is building her own successful publishing career.

What are three cons to being an indie author?

PAR: The money you have to front in order to publish a book. It can be expensive. Being in charge of all your marketing and still sometimes the negative backlash for not having a publisher. And having complete control over your career. If you fail, it’s your fault.

Promotion is key to every author. But you can’t always predict how well a promotion is going to work out. Tell us about one promotion that you did – for a new release or at a conference that really surprised you.

PAR: I’ve done a lot of promotions. Facebook works the best for me. Next step will hopefully be BookBub if I can snag one of their ads. I would say so far, it was getting one of those 6 foot tall banners and having it placed in a well-seen spot. My book sales at that conference were great.

Being an indie author may not be for everyone – although there are plenty of authors who are doing it and plenty of traditionally published authors who are incorporating it into their careers as well. But what does it take to be a truly committed and successful self-published author?

c1e4e5_edf94ad1148f4e8fa5f93657ef458c3f.jpg_srz_p_174_265_75_22_0.50_1.20_0PAR: Dedication and time. If you don’t do the legwork, no one will do it for you. You have to work your ass off in this business to get ahead. No one said self-publishing was easy. And it’s not. Just know if you go that route, it’s hard work and you may not always make your money back. But the bright side, they are on sale forever—so market the backlist to get them selling. That’s my next step.

Building a readership or audience is important for any author – but indie authors don’t have publishers to help them shoulder some of the promotional challenges. As an indie author – how do you connect with readers?

PAR: Engage, engage, engage. Always take time out on social medias to talk to your readers and always respond to their emails. If they reach out, reach back. It’s rewarding both ways.

11986993_973569266038734_6747607187371324996_n
Tell us about your latest release. And what do you have coming down the road?

PAR: Gypsy (book 3) was my last release. If I didn’t have a day job, they would come faster. He was my challenge as he was very much a party boy stuck with a mate he did not want. Let’s say he was one angry vampire who became an ass. Rogue (book 4) comes out Feb. 2, 2016, with two novellas planned next year following its release. Draven (book 4.25) and Preacher (book 4:75). Normally authors do a 4.5 for their novellas. It just so happened that I planned two before book 5 comes out: Xander.

c1e4e5_e7e480d6d33c6ac716b83db2d9efebd0.jpg_srz_p_188_290_75_22_0.50_1.20_0Your heroes tend to be hot and hunky and decidedly Alpha. Where do you get your inspiration for your sexy leading men?

PAR: I love strong alphas, guys who need a little taming. I would say I’ve always been attracted to them, even well before my writing career. I had a lot of male friends who rode motorcycles. My mom and dad’s best friends owned the Harley Davidson shop in our town. Now, I still love the hot, sexy manly type over the traditionally handsome men.

BONUS QUESTION: When you’re really stressed out – how do you blow off steam?

PAR: I read with a glass of wine or an ice cold beer. Reading is still my favorite way to slip away from reality for a bit.

Thanks Patricia for joining us today.

She’s funny. She’s delightful. She’s a damn good writer. She’s Kristan Higgins

Kristan Higgins

Kristan Higgins

In today’s ongoing series of Q and As with bestselling authors  – we feature the delightful and talented Kristan Higgins (contemporary romance author and women’s fiction author).  Kristan Higgins is the New York Times, Publishers Weekly, USA TODAY and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of more than fifteen novels and a two-time winner of the Romance Writers of America RITA Award. Her books have been translated into more than twenty languages and received numerous starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Library Journal, Kirkus and Romantic Times. She is a four-time nominee for The Kirkus Prize for best work of fiction. What was your first book that hit a bestseller list? What was the list, where did the book rank when it first hit, and how high did your book get?

AIEWfcreissueKH: ALL I EVER WANTED hit the USA TODAY list…I forget where, but let’s say it barely squeaked in there. It stayed on for two weeks, and I was utterly thrilled!

What were you doing when you found out you hit the bestseller list? And how did you celebrate or mark the occasion?

KH: I think I was sitting on this very porch, and my editor called me. I said, “Are you even kidding? Don’t joke about that stuff!” We were both so excited!

For that first time, my husband took me out to a fantastic restaurant, and told the maître d’ “My wife’s book just hit the USA TODAY list!” The restaurant people brought over champagne, and when dessert came, they wrote “Congratulations!” in icing. It was like a dream. Plus, I didn’t have to cook.

What does being a “successful author” mean to you?

Kristan Higgins at a book signing.

Kristan Higgins at a book signing.

KH: I think success means knowing that my books have had an impact on readers. Books are meant to be read, after all; I’m not writing just for my own entertainment. But loving my work is a part of success, too, because if I hated writing and didn’t care about the end result, well, where’s the joy in that? And there’s a financial component in there, too, somewhere. My original goal was to earn enough so that I wouldn’t have to wait tables part-time. That goal has been surpassed. It’s nice to be paid for the work I do, but if I only made as much as a part-time waitress, I’d still be writing.

Some authors are great at it, while others can’t find the right formula, but in order to be a success in today’s market, you have to do promotion. So, what are the top three things that you do consistently when it comes to promotion?

KH: I write everything myself—I answer all my email, posts and messages, I write my own newsletters, every Tweet and Facebook post comes from me. I think that’s important, because it connects me with my readers, and that bond can’t be underestimated. I also think you can tell when you get a note from someone’s assistant, and that strikes me as ungrateful in a way . . . here the reader has told you how much she loved your book, and you don’t even read it? You don’t have five minutes to answer? I just couldn’t do that.

Kristan with her dear friend (the wonderful) Kim Castillo

Kristan with her dear friend (the wonderful) Kim Castillo

I deliver a consistent product. When you go to my Facebook page, read my newsletter, follow me on Twitter, read my blogs, you’ll always know it’s me (see #1). All those posts contain the same tone as my books—they’re warm, approachable, often funny, heartfelt and talk about everyday life. I’m not whining about how mad I got in traffic or “vague-booking” about my problems, because that’s not what my readers want to hear about. They want the me of my books. My friends and family are there for the bad traffic days.

I write more books. It’s easy to believe that if you just promote enough, your book will get attention. I don’t think that’s true. Readers can’t be fooled or manipulated into loving an author. It’s always about the book. I know authors who are great on Facebook and write ragingly popular blogs about publishing, authors who have ten times the Twitter followers I have. But that’s not what I’m doing for a living. I don’t want to be a social media whiz; I want to write books. My readers want me to write books. You have to choose how you spend your time.

What is one thing you absolutely LOVE about being an author and one thing that makes you BONKERS?

Kristan is a dog lover and dog owner. She says most of her books have dogs in them because "life without a dog is pretty lonely to contemplate."

Kristan is a dog lover and dog owner. She says most of her books have dogs in them because “life without a dog is pretty lonely to contemplate.”

KH: I love when I understand my book. It usually takes 265 pages, and then I smack my forehead and say, “So that’s what this book is about!” I would sincerely love it if this moment could take place on page 10 and have killed several roosters under the full moon to try to change this, but all for naught, I’m afraid. Page 265 seems to be a thing with me. (Author disclaimer: I really haven’t killed any roosters. But I’ve been tempted.)

The thing that makes me a little bonkers is the phrase “churning them out” in regard to writing two books a year. First of all, in the romance genre, that’s not terribly fast. Secondly, it implies that I’m just going through certain motions. I don’t. Every book is different. Every book is hard. Every book has a chunk of my heart in it. There’s no formula or button or crank. It’s my heart on the page, almost literally. I want to say to those people, “Churn? Churn them out? It’s more like I gave birth to an alien baby covered in spikes, okay?”

beyondsunrise2014Who are some of your favourite authors and why?

i_cant_complain_lgKH: Mary Balogh for her beautiful prose and wonderful characters; Elinor Lipman for her wry, wise, joyful voice; Marian Keyes for her sense of humor; Robyn Carr for her moral compass; Stephen King for scaring the pants off me.

What are you currently working on?

KH: I’m working on a women’s fiction novel called ON SECOND THOUGHT. It’s about two women who find themselves abruptly single and end up living together while they try to come to terms with the reality (and end) of their relationships. And it’s about second chances, too.

In your daily work routine what do you do first and why? A. write/plot/creative B. social media/promotion C. email/admin

IYDfc-smallWOYfcKH: C first because I always have to check and see if there’s something from my editor or publicist that needs taking care of quickly. Then B would come second, usually because there’s a note that says something like if you could have this by today, that would be so great! Then comes A, because I like to have uninterrupted time to work creatively, so I clear the runway, as it were.

What would I find on your desk at this very moment?

KH: I’m on my front porch!

Finish this sentence: I’m a writer because . . .

KH: I think I’d go a little crazy if I couldn’t be. I don’t know what nonwriters do all day? Talk to real people? That seems so uninspired!

KH: Thank you so much for having me today! I loved your questions, and it’s a huge honor.

Q and A with USA Today Bestselling Author Misty Evans (dark romantic suspense & sexy paranormal author)

USA Today bestselling author Misty Evans

USA Today bestselling author Misty Evans

Bestselling authors have “been there and done that”. They know how much work it takes to hit a bestseller list and they are here to share their wisdom (and wit). Today I’m featuring USA Today bestselling author Misty Evans. Misty writes dark romantic suspense and sexy paranormals. Welcome Misty!

JD: What was your first book that hit a bestseller list? What was the list, where did the book rank when it first hit, and how high did your book get?

10ME: Oh, gosh, I suppose my first “bestseller” was Operation Sheba. My publisher did a promo on it in 2010 and it went to #1 on the Amazon Romantic Suspense list, #2 in Romance, and #3 in overall Kindle books. The other two books in the series at that time did well too, ending up high in the RS list. I’ve had two books hit the USA TODAY list, Deadly Pursuit, and The Secret Ingredient. Both were in boxed sets and there was much celebrating by all of us.

JD: What were you doing when you found out you hit the bestseller list? And how did you celebrate or mark the occasion?

5ME: With Operation Sheba, it was huge. My first published book…I was over the moon. I had been watching the Amazon lists the first day of the promo, but it was an email from my editor later that evening that told me I’d reached so high. There was Snoopy Happy Dancing and champagne the next day from my hubby.

What does being a “successful author” mean to you?

ME: Success isn’t about lists or royalties or rankings to me. It used to be, and I made myself a ver
y anxious and not very happy author. I had to change my thinking. Success is about what’s inside you, not what’s outside. Are you happy? Do you look forward to sitting at the keyboard everyday? I can’t control numbers, algorithms, or new technology. What I can do is love my job, write the books fans adore, and find ways to help other authors make their dreams come true. That is true success to me.

JD: Some authors are great at it, while others can’t find the right formula, but in order to be a success in today’s market, you have to do promotion. So, what are the top three things that you do consistently when it comes to promotion?

ME: 1.) Write the next book—you absolutely can’t do any better promo than putting out the next book in a series and having the links to your other stories in the back matter. 2.) Nail your keywords and categories. When a potential reader searches by subject matter on any retailer, you want to be sure your book comes up in the appropriate category. 3.) Put out a quality newsletter with behind-the-scenes snippets, recipes, and engaging content, not just “Buy My Book” messages. This goes hand-in-hand with social media as well. Engage your readers, don’t just preach to them.

JD: What is one thing you absolutely LOVE about being an author and one thing that makes you BONKERS?

301810_435630796455597_1824116361_n503fcedff1466-525369c545c9cME: I love creating stories and seeing how they resonate with readers. In January, with the release of DEADLY FORCE, the fourth book in my SCVC Taskforce series, I raised money for Paws & Stripes, an organization that rescues shelter dogs and trains them to be service companions to veterans with PTSD. My fans loved the idea and really got behind it, sharing our Operation Freedom Dogs campaign and I recently mailed a check for over $2000 to P&S.

What drives me bonkers is trying to find enough hours in the day to write and promote!

JD: Who are some of your favourite authors and why?

ME: I have too many favorite authors to name them all, but my favorites tend to be the ones who create fascinating worlds I can sneak off to whenever I want and forget the real world for a few hours . . . for a few days!

36JD: What are you currently working on?

16ME: I’m writing the next SCVC Taskforce novel, Deadly Intent, and editing the next Justice Team Series book, Exposing Justice, with Adrienne Giordano. Both books release in July.

JD: In your daily work routine what do you do first and why?

write/plot/creativeI definitely write first thing in the morning. That’s when my creative energy is high. I often write later in the day when I can, but I’m most productive first thing in the morning. My best plots come in the evening or at night. I don’t know why, but that’s how my brain works!

social media/promotionSocial media is so much fun, I have to save it for a treat after the work is done. Usually that means waiting until lunch time or later.

email/adminThis area is best handled after the work is done, too. It takes me too long to get the right energy flowing if I start with email or admin duties first thing in the morning. They tend to suck my creative-self dry.

JD: What would I find on your desk at this very moment?

ME: I don’t have a desk anymore. I write on my laptop, often in bed or sitting at the kitchen table. I’ve found I’m more motivated and inspired if I move around and don’t confine myself to one set place. I’m definitely a minimalist these days! The clutter-free zone frees up my mental space.

JD: Finish this sentence: I’m a writer because . . .

ME:  . . . it makes me happy!

Four Nights 1ABOUT ELOISA: A reviewer from USA Today wrote that she “found herself devouring [Eloisa’s] book like a dieter with a Hershey bar”; People Magazine raved that “romance writing does not get much better than this.” Eloisa wrote her first novel after graduating from Harvard, but alas, it was rejected by every possible publisher. After she got a couple more degrees and a job as a Shakespeare professor, she tried again, with much greater success. Over twenty best-sellers later, she teaches Shakespeare in the English Department at Fordham University in New York City. She’s also the mother of two children and, in a particularly delicious irony for a romance writer, is married to a genuine Italian knight.
