SYNOPSIS:

What would happen if an Angel decided to play Devil’s Advocate?

After a head-on collision between a glamorous sports car and a serviceable but very plain little automobile, a kind-hearted trainee angel does a swap in Heaven’s waiting room.

Lisa Jackson, a short, feisty schoolteacher gets a second chance and finds herself in hospital in the body of a tall, glamorous, philandering American wife.

She has a wealthy, drop-dead gorgeous husband who looks as if he’s just stepped out of a romance novel – but for some reason he can’t stand the sight of her.

She thinks she’s gone crazy, and if she tells anyone they’ll know she has . . . and lock her up. They’ll think she’s bonkers. And she can’t run away and hide: she’s got a broken leg.

Dan Brogan is an orthopaedic surgeon. One of the reasons he accepted a post at New Zealand’s largest children’s hospital was as a last ditch attempt to save his marriage.

The woman who wakes up after a serious car accident looks like his Californian-born wife, Linda, but doesn’t act or sound like her.

She thinks being tall is great and is amazed she’s got boobs. She also speaks with a New Zealand accent, knows the rules of rugby, doesn’t recognise him and, insists she isn’t his wife.

Unfortunately, Dan doesn’t have a choice, he has to take her home.

Which is when the fun begins…

REVIEWS:

“It’s a fantastical scenario, but suspend your disbelief and settle back to enjoy a lighthearted warm read from an exciting new novelist.” – New Idea

“This is a delicious and light read…Bonkers is a fluffy, feel-good fairytale which, despite its implausible plot, is filled with family personalities and dramas we can all relate to. Holman’s down-to-earth style makes this an entertaining indulgence.” – Herald on Sunday 06/01/2008

“There are plenty of laughs, as well as some more heartfelt moments during Bonkers — the debut novel from Kiwi Michelle Holman — and it’s worth a read.” – The Dominion Post 06/12/2007

“A quirky debut novel that meets all the criteria for a good girly read….” – Taranaki Daily News 15/03/2008

…Just wanted to let you know that I have just finished the book “Bonkers” by Michelle Holman… and it was great. My son (7) summed it up while talking to one of our friends ” Mum hasn’t been reading, she’s been looking at her book and then laughing”! I’ve just started reading the another book by Michelle Holman, Divine and am really enjoying it.” Teena Joyce, 13/1/2009.

AUTHOR BIO:

I’m a full time author living in Cambridge, New Zealand which is not far from where Hobbiton was built for the Lord of The Rings movies and is about to be used again for the filming of The Hobbit. A lot of short people with large feet living in the area got to be extras on the LOTR movies and are being called back for The Hobbit. I’m average height and have average sized feet so I don’t qualify but, I KNOW people with big feet who are STARS.

Like most authors, I spent every moment of my childhood with my head stuck in a book and recall writing my first “book” when I was twelve. It was about two New Zealand girls who went to London and fell in love with two rock stars. This may have had something to do with me going to my first rock concert.  Unsurprisingly, the book never saw the light of day. I did what most kiwis do when they leave school, travelled abroad and met my English husband. We’ve been married for twenty-five years in June and have two teenagers. He still likes to point out my parents bought me a one-way ticket to England, which isn’t true – if it was they would have moved without telling me. We live on a few acres with two horses, a Border Collie-crossed-with-something-else dog that eats sofas, and a cat that rules the roost.

I’m a lapsed Emergency Department nurse (you never stop being a nurse, you just lapse) and I’ve also worked as a  holiday camp chalet maid in the UK, kibbutz worker, and as a tissue transplant co-ordinator at the Coroner’s Officer.

I dreamed the scene in Bonkers in Heaven’s Waiting Room where George, the trainee angel decides to send Lisa back to Earth in the wrong body. George is actually my father-in-law, he died not long before I wrote Bonkers and would have done exactly the same thing. Thanks to Bonkers, and the sequel, Barefoot, he has quite a following. I’m published in New Zealand and Australia by Harper Collins and in Austria, Germany and Switzerland by Droemer. Bonkers was my first book, my fifth is due for release in New Zealand and Australia in November, 2011. I write what I like to read: sexy, funny romances with flawed heroes and heroines and happy endings.

I love to hear from readers – it’s what makes writing books so worthwhile.

One response to “BONKERS by MICHELLE HOLMAN (contemporary romance)

  1. This looks like a great book. Tried looking it up on Amazon, but since it’s a NZ publisher the price was way to expensive for me for an unknown author. Was really bummed though.
